First Guides are teen junior docents between the ages of 14 and 17 years old who are trained to engage with visitors as they walk along a live animal exhibit trail. First Guides demonstrate animal biofacts, often alongside mentors holding live animals. First Guides attend a 20-hour formal training program and self schedule time with mentors afterward. In 2024, training is scheduled for June 19, 20, 25, and 26 from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. and June 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. First Guides schedule time most often in July and August as they are available.
