Volunteers to assist with student services, exhibitor services, hospitality services at NH Forest Career Field Day on May 4.
Workforce shortages are a persistent and growing trend in New Hampshire’s forest products industry. Contributing to this is a dwindling number of young adults entering our industry. Three years ago, the NHTOA organized a steering committee to identify the challenges and barriers to educating and recruiting young adults for our industry. Using survey data from high school students and educators, the committee continues to explore the possibility of developing a forest products industry training program for high school students. This program has two goals:
1. Make students, guidance counselors, and school administrators aware of career opportunities in natural resources, forestry, wildlife, and the forest products industry;
2. Provide entry-level understanding, hands-on training, and tangible certification for high school students interested in pursuing careers in the above-named fields.
To kick off this program, NHTOA hosted the very first New Hampshire Forest Career Field Day on May 5, 2022. The event was a success and very well received by students, teachers, and exhibitors. May 4, 2023.
