WSCA 106.1 FM Portsmouth Community Radio (wscafm.org) is a listener‑supported, non‑commercial, freeform community radio station serving the Seacoast with diverse local music, arts, and public affairs programming.
Role Summary
WSCA is seeking an experienced Nonprofit Board Treasurer to join our volunteer Board of Trustees and provide financial leadership, oversight, and guidance for our community radio station. This is an unpaid, governance‑level role ideal for someone who wants to use their financial and board experience to strengthen a mission‑driven, community‑powered media organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the board’s financial officer, working with the Board and existing Treasurer transition plan to oversee WSCA’s budget, cash flow, and financial health.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial records, monthly/quarterly financial reports, and clear explanations of financials to the Board of Trustees.
- Lead or support annual budgeting, financial planning, and monitoring of income and expenses (including underwriting, donations, and grants).
- Oversee compliance with nonprofit financial and reporting requirements (e.g., IRS filings and applicable New Hampshire regulations), working with outside professionals as needed.
- Help maintain and improve internal financial controls and policies appropriate for a small, volunteer‑driven nonprofit.
Required Experience and Qualifications
- Prior experience serving as Treasurer (or equivalent financial officer) for a nonprofit board is required.
- Demonstrated experience with nonprofit financial management, budgeting, and financial reporting. CPA or formal accounting background is a plus but not required.
- Ability to translate financial information into clear, accessible language for a diverse volunteer board.
- Comfortable using spreadsheets and/or accounting software suitable for small nonprofits.
- Commitment to WSCA’s mission of inclusive, community‑driven radio and to ethical, transparent stewardship of resources.
Time Commitment
- Approximately 5–8 hours per month, including Board of Trustees meetings, review of financials, and periodic planning or committee work.
- Multi‑year board term, consistent with WSCA’s bylaws and Board of Trustees policies (details provided during the interview/nomination process).
Location
- WSCA 106.1 FM, Portsmouth, New Hampshire, with a mix of in‑person and remote board/committee meetings as scheduled.
