Join the Squam Lakes Association (SLA) on Saturday, April 21st from 12:00pm to 3:00pm for a guided hike at Whitten Woods in Ashland, NH. As part of the SLA Adventure Ecology Program series, Lakes Region Conservation Corps (LRCC) AmeriCorps member, Becca, will lead a guided hike to the summits of North and South Peak.
Participants will enjoy an easy 4-mile hike to both peaks at Whitten Woods, which have remarkable views of the Squam Lakes. We will meet at the SLA before heading over to the trailhead. Please come prepared for soft trails, as this hike will take place in the middle of mud season. On this hike, Becca will discuss the importance of how to properly hike during mud season, and reasons why we close most of our trail network around this time. By the end of the hike, participants will have a better understanding of what AmeriCorps is doing here at the SLA, and the different ways this program works to promote low impact recreation and conservation to the public. All ages are welcome to participate in this program.
For more information, or to sign up for this Adventure Ecology program, visit the SLA website (squamlakes.org) or contact the SLA directly (603-968-7336). The SLA also offers other guided hikes and environmental programs throughout the year. These free programs, presented by the LRCC AmeriCorps members at the SLA, are open to the public and cover a variety of conservation related topics and activities around the lake.
