Description

Join the Squam Lakes Association (SLA) on March 13th from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm for a guided hike in Belknap Woods. Participants will join Lakes Region Conservation Corps AmeriCorps member, and conservation professional, Maggie Upham, for a hike around the Outer Loop Trail.  The SLAs guided hikes series helps participants become Squam Rangers, which is a program designed to help strengthen the community’s connection to the 50 miles of trails the SLA maintains.

During the hike, Maggie will discuss the importance of trail maintenance and what the SLA does to maintain the trails in the Squam Lakes Region. Winter hiking is a great way to see this beautiful area in a different way. Just because its cold does not mean hiking season is over! Hiking in the winter is a wonderful experience and something that the SLA wants to share with the public. Cool weather always makes things quiet resulting in a relaxing environment.

Participants will meet before the hike at SLA headquarters, located at 534 U.S. Route 3 in Holderness, at 10:00 am. The Outer Loop trail is a fairly easy hike making it accessible and enjoyable for all ages.  Participants should wear warm layers of clothing, and bring snacks and plenty of water. The SLA can provide up to 6 pairs of snowshoes but participants are encouraged to bring their own snowshoes or microspikes if possible.

For more information, or to sign up for this Adventure Ecology program, visit the SLA website (squamlakes.org) or contact the SLA directly (603-968-7336). The SLA also offers other guided hikes and environmental programs throughout the year. These free programs, presented by the LRCC AmeriCorps members at the SLA, are open to the public and cover a variety of conservation related topics and activities around the lake.
