Who We Are

Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.

Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains is one of 111 councils chartered by Girl Scouts of the USA, the world’s leading organization dedicated solely to girls. Here in New Hampshire and Vermont we serve more than 6,000 girls with the guidance of more than 3,500 dedicated and trained volunteers. We provide an accepting and nurturing environment where girls build character and skills for success. In partnership with caring adults, girls develop qualities to serve them all their lives: strong values, social conscience, and conviction about their potential and self-worth.

What We Do

Through hundreds of programs offered each year, girls develop their leadership potential in activities that enable them to discover their values, skills and the world; connect with others in a multicultural environment; and take action to make a difference. This is the Girl Scout Leadership Experience.

How Girls Enjoy Girl Scouting

About 90% of our Girl Scouts participate through traditional troops led by volunteers. Many others participate through after-school programs lasting six to eight weeks, or through one-week school vacation activity centers. We offer day and resident camping, and other unique opportunities through which youth receive the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. When youth cannot come to us, we bring the program to them through our Virtual Programming and traveling STEM Van.

Timely topics such as STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math), adventure sports, advocacy and civic involvement,  mental wellness, and entrepreneurship have joined traditional program opportunities offered to girls, from leadership, outdoor skills, wildlife, the environment, travel, first aid and disaster preparedness, to water sports. The Girl Scout Cookie program is the number-one financial literacy program for girls in the world where they learn money management, salesmanship and marketing, goal-setting, and teamwork. Every activity is girl-driven, so girls learn to make good choices and discover their  potential as a leader. Community service is a vital part of our mission to “make the world a better place.” Girl Scouts in our  council alone participate in thousands of hours of service  projects every year, directly benefiting their community, the state, our country, and the world.
