As the first friendly face that members and visitors see, the Volunteer Receptionist plays a vital role in creating a welcoming environment at the Senior Activity Center. This role supports day-to-day operations by providing information, answering phone calls, and assisting new and prospective members.

Details:

Schedule: Shifts available Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM. Ideally, volunteers commit to one or more full or half day shifts per week, or are able to commit to being an ongoing substitute.

Duties: Greet members, visitors, and guests warmly as they arrive; answer incoming phone calls and direct them to the appropriate staff; provide basic information about center activities, services, and membership; lead informal tours for prospective members and guests; help new members with registration and assist all members with sign-in at the kiosk; orient new members and make them feel welcome; assist with paperwork such as collating newsletters; keep the front desk area tidy and organized; assist members with signing up for new programs; collect payment for programs (handling money); notify staff of any concerns or special needs shared by visitors or members; enter and maintain new member data. 

Training Provided: All reception volunteers receive orientation and on-the-job training: use of phone system, copy machines and other office equipment as necessary. Staff are always available for questions or support.

This role supports the smooth operation of the center by greeting guests, answering phones, and assisting with basic administrative tasks.
