Volunteer: Willing Hands Garden Volunteer, Upper Valley

Garden with us! Gardens grow food for neighbors experiencing food insecurity in East Thetford, VT, Norwich, VT, and/or Lebanon, NH.

For more than 15 years, volunteers have been growing organic vegetables at our main Willing Hands Garden, hosted by Cedar Circle Farm in East Thetford, VT. We meet regularly throughout the growing season to do any and all tasks required to grow amazing produce for those struggling to put enough food on the table. We plant, weed (and weed some more!), fertilize, harvest, wash, and crate thousands of pounds of vegetables. Over the past several years, we have increased the acreage (now at multiple sites!), productivity, and variety of produce we grow—from the ordinary (peas and carrots) to slightly more exotic (ground cherries and watermelon). We provide all the necessary training and tools but frequently volunteers bring their own favorite work gloves, along with water to drink.

Our regular work sessions are: Tuesday mornings 9:00-11:00 am, Thursday afternoons 4:00-6:00 pm, and Saturdays from 9:00 am-11:00 am at our garden in East Thetford, VT.; Tuesday afternoons 4:00-6:00 pm at our garden in Norwich, VT; and Wednesday afternoons, 4:00-6:00 pm at our garden in Hanover, NH. We work (light) rain or shine, just not when it is pouring rain or thundering. We call or email if a work session is cancelled due to weather. Volunteers come when they are available, even if it is only occasionally; there are no commitment requirements, but we know you’ll have a great time with this group! To learn more, email volunteer@willinghands.org or go to our website to register as a volunteer and receive our weekly updates about our schedule of opportunities to grow food for our neighbors experiencing food insecurity!

Volunteer: Volunteer Opportunity: Grounds Committee Member, Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum

·      Like being outside more than being on Zoom

·      Think pulling invasive plants is oddly satisfying

·      Have mowing experience

·      Want to help a one-of-a-kind museum stay beautiful and welcoming

The work is rewarding and varied: improving paths through our beloved Medicine Woods (in fact, we’re going to build a new Accessible Trail this year), caring for our 60-species Arboretum, planting native greenery, and keeping nature from going too “wild kingdom.”

Have pruning shears or a chainsaw? You’ll be our hero.
No equipment but willing hands and good humor? Also heroic.

We mostly get our hands dirty between April and October, but we do sneak in a few planning meetings during the colder months (preferably indoors and near snacks). Whether you can pitch in regularly or just now and then, we’d love to have you on the team.

To learn more, visit indianmuseum.org.
To volunteer, email info@indianmuseum.org or call our office at 603-456-2600

Come join the fun. Get some sun. Maybe meet a frog.
Help us keep MKIM looking great—one weed at a time.

BACKSTAGE POSITIONS

Set Building:

You don’t need to be an experienced carpenter to help with set building (although we welcome you if you are!). Our Lead Carpenters and experienced builders will teach you and guide you in tasks appropriate for your skill level.  It is also a great way to learn and practice a new skill and get to see your work in the final production. Some sets are realistic interiors that look just like a room in someone’s home and others are unit sets with many pieces that move in and out.  This is a fun and challenging way to be a part of a production. Set building takes place at a variety of times so you can probably find sessions that work with your schedule. Keep an eye out for an upcoming Power Tool Workshop where you can get concentrated instruction.

Set Painting:

You don’t need to be an artist/painter, or to be gifted (although there are lots of opportunities for specialized art work if you are an artist).  Much of the scene painting we do at The Players consists of base-coating, solid color painting, and easily painted specialty pieces that require only patience and the love of moving a paintbrush.  Again, our Lead Painters will be at every session to guide you in tasks and techniques.  Scene painting is great fun and even if you have never done it before, you’ll be able to learn techniques that will have you painting like Rembrandt.  Painting sessions are at varying times so you cand pick and choose those that work with your schedule.  There’s nothing like seeing your hard work under stage lights!

Set Dressing:

Do you love yard sales and antique shops?  Do you love decorating would you like to have access to a budget and a whole warehouse floor full of interesting objects?  Do you have an eye for where to hang pictures, where to put artificial plants, which curtains work best with the design of the room?  If this sounds like you, you will love set dressing.  Working with the designer you will bring the set to life by adding all the finishing touches.  You’ll also be working side by side with the Properties Designer, always a fun collaboration.  You’ll do a lot of your work later in the production calendar, once the set is finished, so it’s often a whirlwind of hunting, shopping, hanging, and excitement as you move things into the Audi during the last week or two (for musicals) and bring the set detail to life.

Props Manager and Props Assistant

Such a simple title for a very challenging and rewarding job.  The props manager makes a list of properties needed for the show using the script.  They then work with the director on additions and deletions. You will be finding, buying, or pulling from our extensive prop collection all the things that the actors handle during a play. A love of yard sales, thrift shops, crafts and collecting makes you a perfect candidate!  Sometimes you will work in collaboration with the set dresser as well.  Each play has different prop requirements—Our Town has about six props and Not A Word had more than 50. In addition to getting the props ready the Prop Manager attends rehearsals (later in the rehearsal period, usually) and all performances to work backstage with props assistants and the stage manager to be sure all items are in the correct spot and ready for actors.  Note: The Players are very aware of and careful for prop safety, following strict guidelines for prop firearms, knives, swords, etc.

Costume Designer, Costume Assistants, Wardrobe Manager

If you love working with people and clothing you might find your theatre home on the second floor of the Players’ Studio, where you will find one of the largest collections of costumes in the state.  What we don’t have in stock we build or borrow and every show needs lots of help with costumes.  If you have any training or experience with costume design, we need you now! If you are interested in learning we can pair you with our experienced designers on a few shows until you feel ready to design on your own.

If you like to sew or have always wanted to learn, we also need you now.  Costumes need to be altered, mended or modified. Bring your skills to the costume assistant position.

And maybe you love costumes but don’t want to design or sew!  We need you to work on wardrobe, which is the packing, transporting, organizing at the theatre, being a backstage dresser and helping actors with costume changes, collecting, laundering, and returning of all costumes used in a show.  Don’t worry if this sounds like a lot—you’ll have plenty of help.  Wardrobe work is a great way to be backstage during a show and to be a vital part of the action.  Most of your commitments as wardrobe manager will be during the last few weeks of production and immediately following the show.

Run Crew

Are you calm under pressure?  Do you love order and organization? Do you look good in black and a headset?  Our run crews perform set and prop changes under the direction of the Technical Director and Stage Manager.  You will often work with a stagehand script, a detailed list of all the changes and who does what and when. The run crew for 39 Steps last season even got a curtain call because they did so much in full view of the audience.  This is a great opportunity to be an integral part of a play if you don’t want to act.  You will need to be at rehearsals later in the rehearsal period and for all rehearsals once the show has moved to the Audi.

Load-In and Strike Crew

It takes a village to get our shows from the Studio to the City Auditorium.  Sometimes it means taking an entire set apart and loading it, along with props, costumes, lighting and sound equipment on a truck, moving it downtown, unloading it and reassembling it on the Audi stage.  It is a brief but intense experience with lots of camaraderie and a delicious lunch served by Players cooks and bakers.  Then, at the end of the show, it all has to be done in reverse…when the actors and run crews are tired and very much in need of your help.  The cast and crew are required to do this job but would welcome you to join them for either or both.

Marketing and Publicity

We have a committee for Marketing and Publicity that could really use your help with everything from graphic design to poster runs. For instance, we need a “Volunteer With the Players” brochure designed as soon as possible!  If you are an experienced graphic design person you will find lots of fun, quirky, and challenging projects waiting for you.  If you just want to help with logistics, if you like to write newsletter entries and copy, if you want to help communicate with print and TV media, help design our show programs, posters, and other publicity we need you.  This work can often be done entirely on your schedule and, again, if you want to learn we have lots of experienced professionals to help you.

Box Office

Help out with all ticket related tasks from managing season subscriptions to taking tickets (paper or electronic) at the door.  Our Box Office committee members will train you on the software and other procedures.  This is a great way to meet the public and will challenge and reward you. Some work required across the season and at performances.

Shop and Paint Shop Maintenance and Studio Maintenance

If you have already had your Studio tour you have seen how well organized and maintained the shop, paint shop, scenery docks, prop and costume storage, library, sound equipment storage, kitchen, bathrooms and rehearsal areas are.  If only this happened by magic!  But it takes many people who are good organizers and meticulous cleaners. (Remember, it’s always more fun to clean someone else’s house!). These spaces are used constantly by people who are so busy building, painting, sewing, and other show-related tasks that they don’t always have time to keep these spaces like they should be.  Once each year there is a Studio clean-up day, which involves many people, but we need help throughout the rest of the year.  You can make your own schedule and get plenty of advice and guidance from experienced Players. It’s not a glamorous job but you will be held in highest esteem and can feel proud of your work every time you come into our beautiful space.

Workshop Assistant/Administrator

The Players offer training workshops—single events—throughout the year and workshop leaders sometimes need help with registration, confirmation, or logistics for those workshops before and on the day of.  If you help out you get to attend the workshop for free!  This isn’t a huge time requirement but it can make a big difference for the instructor and it’s a great chance to get to know people.

Social Events Planning/Set-up/Clean-up

One of the best things about being involved with the Community Players is the frequent opportunities to engage socially.  Each show has a company party and there are often other opportunities to share a meal together at the Studio including the Annual Meeting.  We always need help planning pot luck dinners, shopping for supplies, setting up, and cleaning up, and, of course, enjoying the social time.

Lead and Assistant Producers

Even if you’re not a CEO or head of a big organization (although we welcome all levels of experience) we need your help producing our shows.  It is work that goes largely unrecognized by the outside world—we LOVE our producers within the Players family—but without which there would be no productions. Lead Producers go through one of our periodic Producer Training workshops, which are open to anyone.  This is a great way to learn about all the hard work behind the magic you see on stage.  Our producers do a variety of administrative tasks involving helping to staff the show, scheduling, communication, planning, coordinating and working closely with the director, Players’ president/board of directors and designers.  It is a great challenge and extremely rewarding.  Assistant producers are also encouraged to attend producer training as they help out with all aspects of producing under the guidance of the lead producer. Producers use our detailed Producers’ Manual, which contains detailed lists of all the necessary tasks.

Stage Manager and Assistant Stage Manager

You probably have/had a job or career or manage/managed a family and as such have the basic skill set required to be a Stage Manager.  You will just need to attend one of our Stage Manager training workshops or work first under the guidance of an experienced Stage Manager. The Stage Manager is in charge of everything that happens behind the curtain.  And that’s a lot.  You will work closely with the director to prepare the rehearsal space, run rehearsals, take blocking, coordinate light, sound, and set change cues with the designers, support actors, supervise load out and load in, manage strike and call the show, among many other duties.  It’s like being an air traffic controller only with people instead of planes.  And it is as much fun as it is challenging, especially if you enjoy big-picture management.  The Assistant Stage Manager works closely with the SM and it is a good place to gain experience if you want to Stage Manage.  The Players has a small stable of excellent Stage Managers but they get tired and would welcome some new members of this elite group.

Ushers

Come to a brief training, work with some wonderful people, greet and assist the public, and get to see a show for free.  We always need ushers!

House Managers

Just as the Stage Manager is responsible for everything that happens behind the curtain, you are responsible for everything that happens in front of the curtain. Among other things, you will open and close the theatre building, supervise ushers, handle emergencies, assist patrons with special needs, manage intermissions, assure cleanliness of the lobby and restrooms, and serve as an ambassador for the Players.  You will have access to preparation and training by our experienced House Managers.  Again, if you like to be in charge or if you’re a natural manager, this is a fun job.  Your commitment is limited to show nights after you have been trained.

Lighting, Set, and Sound Designers

In these key design positions, you will design and install lighting, scenery, and sound. These are specialized positions that require some basic training but if you have an interest, the experienced designers at the Players will mentor you and support you as you learn and try your skills. If you are an experienced designer or technician, we need you now!

Light and Sound Board Operators

These are highly technical positions that receive a small stipend.  You may need to be specially trained and certified on the Audi boards, or receive special training on Players’ equipment.  Anyone with past experience running lights and/or sound can shorten the training process and we are willing to train anyone with an interest.  Lights and sound are characters in any show and we need the highest quality work from our operators.  Want a good challenge?  This is it!

VOLUNTEER FOR A COMMITTEE (Chair or Member)

Our standing committees work year-round and are critical to our work.  Committee Chair’s terms run from July 1 to June 30, but committee members can be added at any time.  Would you be interested in chairing a committee or serving as a member?  Check out this list of committees and contact us to learn more.

Volunteer: Love to Shop? Many elderly /disabled individuals need someone to get or assist them with grocery shopping

Being independent is a matter of pride for many of our elderly and disabled individuals. Yet, the basic need of obtaining food can sometimes be difficult to attain. Volunteers can assist our elderly recipients by transporting them to the store, reading labels, reaching items or ensuring correct money transactions. In some instances, the volunteers may do the shopping for the individual because they are unable.  All volunteers must go through an application process that does require reference checks. For those considering taking a person to the store a driver's license and active vehicle insurance is required.

Organization: Community Caregivers of Greater Derry

Volunteers can assist our elderly recipients by transporting them to the store, reading labels, reaching items or ensuring correct money transactions. In some instances, the volunteers may do the shopping for the individual because they are unable.  All volunteers must go through an application process that does require reference checks. For those considering taking a person to the store a driver's license and active vehicle insurance is required.

Volunteer: Energy to spare? Help an elderly or disabled person who can't quite keep their home as tidy as they would like.

For years many of our elderly and disabled recipients have taken pride in maintaining their homes. Now, because of physical frailty or illnesses they cannot accomplish even the simplest tasks. Volunteers can help with items such as cleaning counter areas, vacuuming, dusting, and laundry. Many combine visiting with the person while doing their tasks. Caregivers seeks to help those who have difficulty.  All volunteers are asked to complete an application process that does involve reference checks. Knowledge of any disability that might affect ability to perform service would be helpful.

Volunteer: Volunteer Opportunity: Events Committee, Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum

Help Bring Events to Life at Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum

Do you enjoy seeing a great event come together—and want to be part of making it happen? The Events Committee at Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum (MKIM) is looking for volunteers to join our team!

From the Powwow to our Harvest Moon Festival,  hands-on workshops, and speaker series, our events bring people together to celebrate and learn about Native American traditions. None of it happens without a dedicated crew of volunteers who care about community, culture, and connection.

We’re looking for people who are:

Organized enough to keep track of details

Creative enough to suggest fresh ideas

Flexible enough to handle the unexpected (like wrangling a tent on a windy day)

Excited to work with a great team of humans doing meaningful things

What’s involved?

One short Zoom meeting a month

Helping with one or more events a year—setting up, greeting guests, or pitching in behind the scenes

Joining a supportive, collaborative group that turns ideas into experiences

You don’t need prior event-planning experience—just a willingness to jump in, lend a hand, and have fun along the way.

Volunteer: Board of Trustees, Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum

Join the Board of Trustees at the Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum (MKIM) and help shape the future of this unique museum and cultural center. Our mission is to serve “as a living center for artistic expression, traditional values, and contributions from past and contemporary Native life.”

We’re seeking enthusiastic, engaged leaders who are excited to volunteer their time and talents to help guide our nonprofit as it reaches for the “next level.” Your expertise can make a meaningful impact—whether by sparking new initiatives, strengthening our strategic plans, boosting fundraising efforts, or helping build a strong foundation for years to come.

MKIM plays a vital role in New Hampshire, a state with no Federally- or State-recognized Native tribes and no reservation lands. Each year, approximately 8,000 visitors—including local residents and travelers from outside the region—come to experience the rich cultural heritage presented in our galleries and events.

Now is a great time to be part of our journey! Help us chart the course for our next phase.

Trustee Expectations

We are looking for people who are genuinely interested and who have the time to actively contribute.  Our expectations of Trustees:

·      Actively participate in Board meetings, providing valuable insights.

·      Review materials ahead of meetings, come prepared to contribute.

·      Collaborate on at least one committee, attending meetings and taking on projects to support committee goals.

·      Engage in fundraising initiatives and fostering donor relationships.

·      Approve budgets, audit reports, and help make significant decisions.

·      Advise the Executive Director on strategic direction and strategy and operations implementation.

Financial Support

There is no expected minimum contribution, but MKIM hopes that Trustees will make the organization a philanthropic priority, making an annual contribution commensurate with that priority and their capacity.  100% Board support provides MKIM a sound basis to credibly solicit contributions from foundations, organizations, and individuals.

Board Terms/Participation

·      MKIM Trustees are elected to serve a three-year term. Directors may not serve more than two consecutive terms, but may serve again after a one-year break.

·      Board meetings are held monthly, typically 10 times virtually and two times in person in Warner, NH.

·      Committee meetings are typically held monthly.  Many are held virtually but some committees meet in person.

·      The average amount of time spent for Board meetings, committee meetings, preparation, events, and project work is approximately 4-8 hrs a month (but can be as much as you are willing!)

Desirable Director Qualifications

·      Leadership experience in a board capacity or related roles.

·      Willingness to actively contribute time, resources, and energy.

·      Interest in Native American history, culture, and contemporary issues.  Prior knowledge a plus but not required.

·      Communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration.

·      The following expertise is desirable however not required: Legal, IT, Development, Digital Marketing, Finance

**Note: MKIM is a nonprofit organization, and the Trustee positions are voluntary and not monetarily compensated.

Join ENGin as a conversation partner! This is a flexible and unique opportunity to make a direct  impact on someone’s life while discovering a new culture and meeting a new friend.

We’ll pair you up with a learner in Ukraine for weekly one hour videochats at times that are convenient for you. During your conversations, you’ll practice English with your partner, learn about each other’s cultures, and offer an empathetic, authentic space for connection.

No prior tutoring experience or knowledge of Ukrainian language is needed to volunteer with ENGin. We offer ample training resources, session materials, and total flexibility to customize your sessions to fit your/your partner’s goals and preferences. Our friendly team is available to support you throughout your time with us.

Since our launch in 2020, ENGin has matched over 26,000 volunteers with Ukrainians for authentic English-language connection across borders, and we continue to grow every day. 99% of our learners report feeling they were able to break the language barrier as a participant in our program, and 79% of our participants form lasting friendships.

Here's what three ENGin volunteers say about their experience.

"I made a friend in Ukraine and we are teaching each other about our culture, our language, and our humor. We're even trading dad jokes! Both of us look forward to our chats and have a hard time wrapping it up."

“Fantastic organization doing great work. So happy to be a small part of it.  My partner and I have worked together for two years and have become good friends! Her English has become better, and I have become more knowledgeable about Ukraine!”

"This program has been, I think, life-changing for both of us. I really consider her more like my daughter right now. That's how close we have become!"

Volunteer: Board and Committee Members!

Bear-Paw relies on the volunteer efforts of people like you to get the job done! Volunteers staff our board and committees, support our special events, and help with other Bear-Paw activities. These are just some of the opportunities available to volunteers. We can tailor jobs to fit your skills and time-constraints. Training can be provided when necessary. Many people volunteer their time each year to Bear-Paw and we hope you can be one of them.
Our Membership Development, Outreach and Education, and Land Protection Committees almost always need volunteers. Here's a brief description of each committee:

Membership Development Committee (MDC) – The MD Committee oversees the fundraising and constituency building programs of Bear-Paw. "Constituency building" doesn't just mean asking for money - it means engaging with people in our community through media outreach, special events, and personal connections. The Membership Development Committee helps develop fundraising policies for the board, create the annual development plan, oversee fund raising strategies, train the board in fundraising practices, and evaluate fundraising campaigns. Meetings are held on the 3rd Monday of each month at 5:00 pm.

Outreach and Education Committee (OEC) – The OE Committee oversees the education and outreach programs of Bear-Paw. We put on programs and develop materials for kids and adults to help them connect to the natural world. The Outreach and Education Committee helps develop, implement, and evaluate all of the OE programs (presentations, workshops, and field trips; brochures, newsletters and other printed material, web site, etc.). Meetings are held on the 1st Monday of each month at 4:30 pm.

Land Protection and Stewardship Committee (LPC) – The LP Committee oversees the land protection activities of Bear-Paw. We visit conserved properties and potential new conservation project sites and engage with landowners and volunteers on conservation and stewardship topics. The Land Protection Committee also provides recommendations to the board for easements, gifts, and land purchases in the Bear-Paw member communities. The Committee also oversees the annual monitoring of all easements held by Bear-Paw. Meetings are held on the 3rd Monday of the month at 4:30 pm.

A great way to get involved is to attend a Board or Committee meeting to see what’s going on – contact the office at info@bear-paw.org or 463-9400 to see when the next meetings are scheduled!

Volunteer: Get outside for a good cause - Easement Monitoring Program

Do you love being outdoors and want to help protect the land in your community? Join Bear-Paw Regional Greenways as a Volunteer Easement Monitor and play a hands-on role in caring for permanently conserved forests, farms, and wildlife habitat across southeastern New Hampshire.

Bear-Paw works with landowners to protect private properties through conservation easements—legal agreements that ensure land stays undeveloped while remaining in private hands. These easements need to be monitored annually, and volunteers are a key part of that effort.

As a monitor, you’ll be assigned one or more conserved properties to visit between July and October. Your role includes walking the land, observing and photographing current conditions, and submitting a brief report. Before your visit, you’ll review the easement deed and property maps, reach out to the landowner to invite them along if they wish, and prepare for a safe outing in the field. No prior experience is needed—Bear-Paw provides all the training, resources, and support to help you succeed.

Program Highlights

Time commitment: 3–5 hours per property, once a year

Training: Two required free trainings (classroom + field) held in July, then you'll be paired up with a mentor before taking on a property of your own

Experience needed: None! Just an interest in conservation and the outdoors

Support: All materials and guidance provided by Bear-Paw staff

Volunteers help monitor properties across the Bear-Paw region, which includes the New Hampshire towns of Allenstown, Barnstead, Candia, Deerfield, Epsom, Hooksett, Northwood, Nottingham, Pittsfield, Raymond, and Strafford.

Whether you’re looking to gain field experience, give back to your community, or simply explore beautiful conserved lands, volunteering as a monitor is a meaningful and rewarding way to get involved.

Protect the land. Get outside. Make a difference with Bear-Paw.

Please note: Monitoring visits often involve walking off-trail through woods, fields, and uneven terrain. Many property boundaries are not marked trails, so volunteers should be comfortable navigating through natural, and sometimes challenging, landscapes.

Volunteer: Volunteer Mentor

DCYF’s Community Connection Program is seeking to recruit and train adult volunteers to serve as Mentors for youth in foster care, ages 14 and up.

Mentors help youth believe they can create a future they want.  They model positive relationship skills and help their mentees strengthen communication skills.  A mentor is an experienced, caring and trusted adult advisor who is willing to listen to our youth and guide them through challenges.  In so doing, mentors can help reduce the risk factors that could lead to negative outcomes such as high school drop-out or substance abuse, thus strengthening our communities.

We want our youth in foster care to build meaningful adult connections and confidence in trusting others.  So we ask mentors for a year-long commitment of 4 hours per month.

Volunteer: Volunteer Visitor - FCI Berlin

Prisoner Visitation and Support (PVS) is the only organization authorized by the Federal Bureau of Prisons and the Department of Defense to visit any prisoner in the Federal and Military prison systems. The primary focus is on seeing those prisoners with an acute need for human contact -- those prisoners without regular visits, those serving long sentences who are far from home, those in solitary confinement and on death row, and those who are frequently transferred from prison to prison. PVS visitors let the prisoners set the agenda for what they discuss.

This listing is for volunteers that are interested in visiting at FCI Berlin, a federal correctional institution serving male offenders in Berlin, New Hampshire.

Organization: Thrive Survivor Support Center

Want to make a difference? When you volunteer at Thrive Survivor Support Center, the effect on you may be as great as the impact you have on survivors. As a volunteer advocate, you will work directly with survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and human trafficking, providing crucial support in their strongest moments. Volunteer advocates are trained to connect the survivor to resources, assist with safety planning process, and provide emotional support to assure the client they are not alone.

In the volunteer advocate role, you will be required to complete a 30-hour training that will prepare you to provide confidential advocacy and support. You are not required to have any previous training in crisis work, only a strong desire to help those in need of services and passion for making a difference for survivors. The 30-hour training includes self-paced modules, synchronous Zoom sessions, and an in person session to review and complete onboarding paperwork. Trainings are scheduled as needed.

Volunteer advocates will be available on an on-call basis. Volunteering for the hotline is a remote opportunity that can be done from your home or wherever you may be, as long as you have access to a private space to provide all of your attention to the survivor.

Hotline shifts are available from 7pm-7am Mon-Sun, 7a-7p Sat-Sun, and 4p-7p Mon-Fri. While shifts are available during these times, it is not required for volunteers to sign up for the entire 12 hours.

Volunteer: Friendly Visitors for Seniors

Our population is aging rapidly, with adults aged 60 and older now outnumbering children under 18 in the Granite State. Many older adults live alone, often without family or friends nearby to help, and find themselves socially isolated. Social isolation can be detrimental to physical health, including higher risk of heart disease, dementia, and stroke.

As our population ages, we are seeing a much higher prevalence of social isolation, which SNMOW aims to tackle with the Friendly Visitor program. Friendly visitors are assigned to clients based on a variety of factors, including personality traits and similar interests and are scheduled to visit their friends up to once per week.

This relationship is beneficial to both the client and the volunteer, giving them new connections, a greater sense of purpose, and better overall well-being.

Volunteer: Meals on Wheels, Drivers Needed! Nashua

Why should you volunteer at Meals on Wheels?

We all know what it feels like to be lonely - and to be hungry not just for a meal, but for the nourishment that comes from personal connection. That’s where you and Meals on Wheels come in. By becoming a volunteer, you’ll deliver a meal, provide a friendly visit, and offer a safety check to homebound and disabled adults who may not have contact with another person all day. You’ll join more than 250 local volunteers and more than two million others nationally - working collectively throughout the U.S. to make sure the older adults who took care of us aren’t forgotten, hungry or alone. It doesn’t take much from each of us to improve the lives of so many. Together, we can make a huge difference for the homebound and disabled adults in our community.

Just a few hours of your assistance , typically between 10:00 am and 12:30 pm can help your neighbors remain healthy and live independently at home.

Volunteer individually or as a part of a team on a rotating cycle. Training is provided. Please call Sean at 603-424-9967 or email volunteers@hcmow.org to find out about available volunteer opportunities in your community.
