Help fight food insecurity. LISTEN Community Services is a non-profit in need of volunteers for its Food Pantry. The Food Pantry is open Monday-Friday. Volunteers are needed for shifts beginning at 9:00 am and ending at 4:00 pm. 

We believe in giving people choices and giving them the resources to make ends meet. Our goal is to provide flexibility to support as many people as possible, regardless of income. Volunteers to the food pantry need a positive attitude and the interest to work with people from a range of cultural backgrounds. Please respect and maintain client confidentiality. 

LISTEN Community Services is a secular non-profit in need of volunteers for its 3 thrift stores. Individuals and groups are welcome. This is an excellent way to help your community or complete your community service hours in a retail setting. Volunteers assist with receiving donations, cleaning, organizing, moving items to/from storage, and general merchandising. We will track your hours and provide you with the means of achieving any quantity of required hours.

Nutrition is important to our customers

United Way of Greater Nashua hosts food drives every Saturday from 10am to 1pm through the end of December. Food drives between January 1 and March 31 will run from 12pm and 3pm.

Volunteers distribute flyers to interested shoppers, listing needed items in the hope that they will purchase additional products to donate. The collected items are then donated to a different local food pantry after each drive. Volunteers will set up at one or two store entrances depending on how many people register to help on a particular day. You can choose to only volunteer on one weekend or on many.

One volunteer at each drive will be responsible for picking up supplies from the United Way office at 20 Broad Street in Nashua on the Friday preceding their food drive and returning them after the drive along with the food collected.

Homeless Resource Center Volunteer

Help support individuals and families experiencing homelessness, housing instability, and economic hardship. Volunteers provide a welcoming presence, assist guests with computers and paperwork, help connect people to resources, and offer general hospitality and support throughout the day.

Flexible 4-hour shifts are available Monday through Sunday between 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM. No special experience is needed, just a caring attitude, patience, and a desire to help neighbors in need.

All volunteers must successfully complete a New Hampshire State background check prior to serving. Your time can make a meaningful difference in someone's journey toward stability and self-sufficiency.

Granite VNA is seeking compassionate Reiki practitioners to provide supportive Reiki sessions for hospice patients in their homes or at the Hospice House as part of our interdisciplinary approach to end-of-life care. Volunteers must provide proof of Reiki Level II certification or higher and complete Granite VNA's volunteer training program before beginning patient visits. The comfort and companionship of a friendly animal can brighten a day, ease anxiety, spark conversation, and bring moments of joy to people facing illness or isolation. Granite VNA is seeking compassionate pet therapy volunteers and their certified therapy dogs to visit hospice patients, home health clients, and community members, helping create meaningful connections one visit at a time. Volunteers must have therapy dog certification through an organization that provides liability insurance for therapy animal teams. In addition, all pet therapy volunteers are required to complete Granite VNA's volunteer training program before beginning visits. We are a nonprofit museum on a mission to entertain and educate and we are in need of our gardens to be weeded. 

The Squam Lakes Association's water-quality data set is the oldest in the northeast, and we need YOU to help keep it going. Volunteer water quality monitoring is a great way to get involved in the Squam community, get outside, and contribute to important research. Join us to learn about how to identify & report invasive milfoil, collect water column samples and create a data profile at two of our monitoring sites, Sandwich Bay and Loon Reef, on Sunday, August 23rd, 9:00 am - 3:30 pm.

The purpose of this excursion is to get folks out on the water and show them how the SLA and its volunteers collect water quality data and are managing invasive milfoil. Participants will get hands-on experience using our equipment on the boat. We will meet at the SLA headquarters, learn about milfoil identification in Squam Lakes and then head out on the lake to complete two water samples. Once we're finished, we will dock on Moon or Bowman Island to eat lunch and take in the scenic views.

The SLA has been building its water quality data set since 1978. Our volunteer network is crucial to gathering samples and measurements at our deep-water monitoring sites across the watershed.

In 2000, variable milfoil (Myriophyllum heterophyllum​) was discovered in the Squam Lakes and River. The Squam Lakes Association has tirelessly worked to keep this submerged invasive aquatic plant controlled. Our efforts include hand-pulling and using a Diver Assisted Suction Harvester.

Minors must be accompanied by an adult, and registration is required for this event.

We are seeking some assistance with revitalizing our residential property to welcome new/more Veterans who need support services. The project may involve organizing, landscaping, lifting, moving, and removing of furniture and debris, painting and more. 

All materials will be provided. Please wear flexible clothing you don't mind getting dirty and comfortable closed toe shoes.

United Way of Greater Nashua holds regular drives for menstrual supplies and other personal care items at Hannaford in Hudson, 77 Derry Rd, on the 2nd Sunday of each month. The hours are 10am to 1pm between April and the end of December. The hours are 12pm to 3pm between January 1 and March 31.

Up to 8 volunteers are needed for each drive date. One volunteer will pick up supplies before the drive from bins behind the United Way office at 20 Broad Street, Nashua. Volunteers will be offering flyers to interested shoppers and encouraging them to purchase extra items to donate. At the end of each drive, volunteers will bring the supplies and donations back to the United Way office.

Donations collected at these drives will be used to supply "Rosie's Pantry", United Way of Greater Nashua's free women's hygiene cabinet hosted by Girls Inc. in Nashua.  These donations will also supply period  pantries at 23 other local nonprofits. Donations to Rosie's Pantry may also be made through our wish list HERE.

Do you have experience working in education, agricultural programs, special education, or garden-to-table demonstrations? Would like to give back to your community to help Prescott Farm enhance our current programs? Then the Education Compass Advisory Team is the right fit for you! 

The Education Compass Advisory Team (CAT) includes community members who share a commitment to Prescott Farm’s mission and volunteer their time and expertise in an advisory capacity.  The team is primarily tasked with helping to navigate a sustainable future for Prescott Farm by focusing on enhancing our current programs and creating new educational opportunities for the community all while staying on mission. Education CAT members are trusted advisors to Prescott Farm and ambassadors of Prescott Farm in the greater Lakes Region community. Team members are expected to provide professional expertise, insights, and guidance to the organization. In addition, members may connect community members and businesses to the work of the organization to help raise visibility and build ongoing support for Prescott Farm’s programs.

The current goals of the Education CAT include:

·       Creating more program opportunities

·       Making our programs more accessible

·       Being practice participants for our field trip programs

·       Putting up new wayfinding and educational signage around the property

Team members may participate in any or all the following ways to help attain the educational goals of Prescott Farm, depending on interest, expertise, and comfort level:

·       Field Trips:

o   Participate in training for new field teachers and provide constructive feedback.

o   Analyze data from school field trip participants about their reasons for choosing Prescott Farm for their field trip, what time of the year is best for field trips, and other relevant data determined by the Camp and School-Age Programs Director.

·       Signage:

o   Participate in wayfinding and interpretive signage planning and identifying signage needs and opportunities.

·       Programs:

o   Identify emerging trends or bring information about successful programs offered at other Nature Centers that are on mission for Prescott Farm.

o   Create and help organize new community programs. This may include but is not limited to a Speaker Series and a Book Club.

§  Speaker Series: Tasks may include creating a list of topics that are on mission and identifying experts on the topic who might be invited to Prescott Farm.

§  Book Club: Tasks may include recruiting new members to join, selecting fiction/nonfiction books on mission for the club to read and discuss, and developing discussion questions for book club meetings.

·       Accessibility:

o   Develop strategies for making Field Trips, Community Connection, Camp, and Preschool Programs accessible to everyone at Prescott Farm.

 Time Needed:

Commitment: 2 years

Time Required:

·       Initial Discovery Tour (if not yet attended) of one hour.

·       One-hour orientation and training

·       Bi-monthly (6 per year) team meetings of 1-2 hours

·       Additional volunteer projects may require additional time.

Our CHR volunteers help low- to moderate-income homeowners—including seniors, veterans, and individuals with disabilities—complete essential repairs that improve safety, accessibility, and quality of life, allowing them to remain safely in the homes and communities they love.

This is an ongoing volunteer opportunity. Once approved, you'll become part of our CHR Team, and our Critical Home Repair Manager will reach out as projects become available that match your skills and availability. There is no set schedule—you simply choose the projects that fit your schedule.

“Gleaning” is the time-honored tradition of sharing the extra food left in a field after the harvest. Willing Hands gleaners visit local partner farms and orchards to collect fresh vegetables, berries, apples, and mixed produce directly from the fields. Locations include Cedar Circle Farm, Crossroad Farm, Edgewater Farm, Hill Farm, Green Dragon Farm, Riverview Farm, Whitman Brook Orchard, and many more.

For more than 20 years, volunteers have been growing organic vegetables in our Sunny Fields Garden at Cedar Circle Farm in East Thetford, Vermont. We meet regularly throughout the growing season to do any and all tasks required to grow amazing produce for our neighbors in the Upper Valley experiencing food insecurity. We plant, weed (and weed some more!), fertilize, harvest, wash, and crate thousands of pounds of vegetables. Over the past several years, we have increased the acreage (now at multiple sites!), productivity, and variety of produce we grow—from the ordinary (peas and carrots) to slightly more exotic (ground cherries and watermelon). We provide all the necessary training and tools (including work gloves) and encourage volunteers to wear closed-toe shoes and weather-appropriate clothing that can get dirty—and to bring sun protection and water to drink.

Our regular work sessions are: Tuesday mornings 9:00-11:00 am, Thursday afternoons 4:00-6:00 pm, and Saturdays from 9:00 am-11:00 am at our Sunny Fields Garden in East Thetford, Vermont.; Tuesday afternoons 5:00-6:30 pm at our Home Garden in Norwich, Vermont; and Wednesday afternoons, 3:00-6:00 pm at our Farmacy Garden in Lebanon, New Hampshire. We work (light) rain or shine, just not when it is pouring rain or thundering. We call or email all volunteers who have registered for a session in our online system in the event of cancellation. Volunteers come when they are available, even if it is only occasionally; there are no commitment requirements, but we know you’ll have a great time with this group! To help ensure our local Eastern Bluebirds have safe, clean homes when they return next spring or for winter roosting, we need to clean out and maintain our bluebird trail boxes. Volunteers will work in small teams to walk our bluebird trail and prep the birdhouses for winter. Tasks include: removing old nests, scrubbing the interior of the box, checking for any needed repairs, and documenting any interesting finds.

Wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes and appropriate clothing for walking through a field (long pants and layers appropriate for the weather). Bring any bug screen or sunscreen along with water and snacks! Everything else needed will be provided.

A collaborative, free family-friendly event where community members work together to identify as many species of plants, animals, fungi, and other organisms as possible at Prescott Farm in one day. These events function as a "snapshot" of local biodiversity, helping to map species and inform conservation efforts.

We will be exploring the different habitats, as identified in our Forest Management Plan, that Prescott Farm has to offer and then identifying as many species as possible within that habitat. The habitats we will be looking at on our property are: Fields, Forest, and Wetland.

To do this we will use iNaturalist and take photos of everything we see. After each session, we will upload them all to iNaturalist at one time as a group. Prior experience using iNaturalist is not required. We will also be hosting a training during this event.

The event is from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm. You can come whenever and stay as long as you want. Here is the tentative schedule, if you want to attend for a specific habitat type.

Dress in layers for the weather. A mobile device with a camera to use iNaturalist. Close-toed shoes, sunscreen, hat, bug spray. Water, snacks, and a lunch if you plan to be here the whole day!

The Windowdressers Nashua team are looking for measuring volunteers. Measurers work in teams to visit households in their community to evaluate and measure their windows, enter measurements in our custom software, and discuss payment options. Measurers typically contribute 20-30 hours total spread over 2-4 months. Measurer training is provided.

The Windowdressers Nashua team are looking for a volunteer Outreach Coordinator. Donating blood saves lives for those who have been in an accident, in need of surgery or a transfusion.  In order to keep up with demand, the Red Cross needs 13,000 donations a day!!  We need volunteers to make these blood drives a success. 

Responsibilities:

Greet donors, explain the donation process as necessary and assist with initial intake and hand offs through the blood donation process

Manage donor flow at temp taking station to ensure only donors passing temp screen are permitted access. Explain purpose of temperature screen to donors and ensure they understand reason for deferral if applicable

 Direct donor to next step of donation or options for future donations if deferred. Model excellent customer service behaviors

Ensure blood donors have relevant information and that questions are answered appropriately while creating a favorable impression of the blood donation process

Learn and share the Red Cross story, including the mission, vision, and values

Provide customer service to donors in the Hospitality Area by ensuring that each donor is recognized for his/her contribution

Report possible adverse post-donation physical reactions to the collections staff

Set up and maintain cleanliness in Reception and Hospitality Areas, and Donor Areas/Beds as requested

Work with collections team supervisor or charge staff to match donor’s blood type with the best product for maximum impact Responsible to inform donors of current and upcoming donation promotions

May make reminder/cancellation calls, re-schedule donor appointments, and perform follow up activities as directed

Time Commitment:

Must be able to commit to a minimum of one 5 Hour Shift per month. Blood Drives are generally held on weekdays Monday-Friday(s) with the occasional Saturday/Sunday(s) between the hours 8am – 7pm. The Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum (MKIM) sits on 12 acres of scenic New Hampshire hillside, with trails, gardens, and beautiful views of the Mink Hills. We are seeking volunteers to join our Grounds Committee and help care for the land, keep the Museum welcoming, and bring new projects to life.

This year, one of our most exciting initiatives is the Accessible Trail through the Medicine Woods. Volunteers will have the chance to:

Help design and install interpretive signage

Participate in the ribbon-cutting celebration

Committee work also includes maintaining trails, caring for our 60-species Arboretum, managing plantings, and keeping the grounds safe and inviting for visitors of all ages. Whether you enjoy light landscaping, mild manual labor, or planning and organizing, there’s a place for you.

Comfort Zone is a lot like regular camp! It’s fun. It has all the traditional parts of camp-archery, arts & crafts, canoeing, bonfires, s’mores and more! A unique part of Comfort Zone is that we also work to help kids with their grief. You don’t need to have experienced a loss or have any clinical background.

During the four-hour volunteer training session, you will meet Comfort Zone staff, campers, and volunteers who will explain what to expect at camp and how our program impacts grieving children and teens. You will receive education about childhood bereavement and we’ll give you tips on how to be successful in whichever volunteer role you are selected to fill.

The Bedford (NH) Lions need your help with sorting and delivering the plastic bags we collect from the Bedford Transfer Center.  We have 10 boxes that fill up in 3-4 days! 

The bags are sent to the Trex company who turns them into community benches.  Trex works with us to promote the importance of recycling through their NexTrex® program. In 2022, Trex helped more than 3,300 community groups (including the Bedford Lions) recycle nearly 2 million pounds of plastic film that was KEPT OUT OF A LANDFILL!

Our Critical Home Repair program helps local homeowners complete essential repairs that improve safety, accessibility, and quality of life—allowing them to remain in the homes and neighborhoods they love. Description: Participate in participatory science here at Prescott Farm through NestWatch. This project is led by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology that tracks the reproductive biology of birds. Monitor and track nesting occurrences, clutch sizes, hatching success, and the number of surviving fledglings to help researchers understand how environmental changes and habitat loss affect breeding bird populations. 

Qualifications:

Training: Attend a NestWatch training provided by either NH Audubon or the Volunteer Coordinator. 

Safety: Wear appropriate clothing for walking in tall grass outside, long pants and sleeves, bug spray, sunscreen, and bring water!

Skills Days: 

For years many of our elderly and disabled recipients have taken pride in maintaining their homes. Now, because of physical frailty or illnesses they cannot accomplish even the simplest tasks. Volunteers can help with items such as cleaning counter areas, vacuuming, dusting, and laundry. Many combine visiting with the person while doing their tasks. Caregivers seeks to help those who have difficulty.  All volunteers are asked to complete an application process that does involve reference checks. Knowledge of any disability that might affect ability to perform service would be helpful.

Getting to medical appointments is critical for the elderly and disabled. Offering your time, once a week, for a couple of hours can ensure that these critical appointments are covered. Rides occur weekdays only. Community Caregivers of Greater Derry assists the elderly and disabled maintain independence and quality of life in their homes.  Community Caregivers of Greater Derry has an application process, which includes reference checks. Volunteers will also be requested to supply a driver's license and active vehicle insurance.

Our Loaner's Closet for Durable Medical Equipment repurposes donated equipment to those in need.  Often times the items that are donated need a little TLC before they can be cleaned, sanitize and sourced out again.

We need a couple handy guys to come in a couple times a month to help fix equipment.

Being independent is a matter of pride for many of our elderly and disabled individuals. Yet, the basic need of obtaining food can sometimes be difficult to attain. Volunteers can assist our elderly recipients by transporting them to the store, reading labels, reaching items or ensuring correct money transactions. In some instances, the volunteers may do the shopping for the individual because they are unable.  All volunteers must go through an application process that does require reference checks. For those considering taking a person to the store a driver's license and active vehicle insurance is required.

Part of what we due at Caregivers is to help the elderly and disabled live safely in their homes. Sometimes that means helping with small projects like weatherization, changing light bulbs, etc...but sometimes they do not have the means to fix large problems such as plumbing work, rook work and electrical problems. We need handy volunteers that have a couple hours a month to assist us. Volunteers must be over the age of 21. You must list two personal reference and complete our orientation process. Tradesmen are encouraged to participate.

Sierra Club New Hampshire Chapter is looking for Chapter Treasurer candidates. The chapter treasurer works collaboratively with the Chapter Director and the elected volunteer member board called the Executive Committee. The chapter treasurer maintains the financial accounts and monthly reports of the Concord-based non-profit organization. The chapter treasurer is not alone. Rather, we collaborate!

The Chapter Treasurer will be using online tools such as QuickBooks, credit card software, Salesforce, and NetSuite. We welcome a retiree who would like to maintain their skills or a person with interest in financing and budgets to gain new skills. We are looking for volunteers with these skills and background but it is not required. We hope you are the right person. 

The chapter director and the executive committee will work with the treasurer to sustain the financial health of the Chapter so that we can successfully achieve our local environmental goals.

Requirements:

18 years or older

Social skills and a positive attitude

Desire and ability to set up, attend, and break down events and fundraisers throughout our catchment area (Nashua, Hudson, Pelham, Salem, Windham, Litchfield, Merrimack, Amherst, Mont Vernon, Lyndeborough, Wilton, Milford, Brookline, & Hollis)!

Intends to commit to 1-year of volunteering with us
