Compassus Hospice NH is looking for individuals who are interested in sharing their dogs with people at the end of life. We are looking for Certified Pet Therapy dogs to visit patients and bring lots of smiles. Do you have a special dog that you want to share? The GEC serves as a unified platform for fostering cooperation, sharing knowledge, and driving progress in the field of entomology. It all starts with education and outreach. Role Description

This is a remote volunteer role for a Board Member at the Global Entomology Coalition in the midst of our organization becoming a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. The role involves collaborating with other board members, setting strategic direction, overseeing organizational governance, and contributing to the coalition's mission of promoting insect conservation and appreciation through research, education, and advocacy.

Board members are selected for two-year terms, with possibility to serve additional terms.   We are searching for up to 3 new board members to join our organization.  

Responsibilities

Mission and Vision Development Vision Creation: Developing a long-term vision for the organization’s future impact. Governance and Oversight: Ensuring the organization operates within the bounds of the law and maintains high ethical standards. Creating and approving policies that guide the organization’s operations and ensure consistency and accountability. Strategic Planning: Developing short-term and long-term goals to fulfill the GEC’s mission. Regularly reviewing and assessing the organization’s progress towards its goals. Financial Oversight: Approving the annual budget and monitoring financial performance. Ensuring adequate resources are available to support the organization’s programs and activities. Reviewing and approving financial statements and ensuring accurate record-keeping. Fundraising and Resource Development: Developing and implementing strategies to secure funding from diverse sources. This is a remote role, with monthly or bi-monthly meetings via Zoom to collaborate on initiatives to achieve the GEC's mission. We are in search of individuals able to commit to the responsibilities, time, and assigned work. This role is open to worldwide applicants who can preferably provide perspective and assistance in one of the following areas of nonprofit governance:

·         Museum Educators who provide tours to visitors (limited availability; Museum Docent Volunteers)

Our greatest needs:  How you can help, and what’s in it for you:

Gallery Attendant:  Learn the general collections of one of our museum buildings.  Over time, develop more in depth knowledge of some key pieces, and/or learn about the collections in another of our buildings.  You’ll have fun talking to people, keeping an eye on the goings on and providing some in depth knowledge to our patrons.  (You may even get some reading done on slower days.)

Your commitment: 

For an Event role, we ask that you help out at least 3-4 times per year.  These opportunities are very dependent on our event schedule, but your shift for the day of the event can be very flexible – even if you only have an hour or two, we’d love your help.

For an Attendant role, we ask that you volunteer at least two shifts per month during our museum’s open hours (at least once per month during Winter season).  Keep in mind this is an average, and we understand you may not have year round availability, and that you have other commitments – we’ll work with you on scheduling that meets our needs and works for you!  We have whole day, half day, and shorter shifts available.

Our greatest needs:  How you can help, and what’s in it for you:

Gift Shop Attendant:  You’ll welcome visitors, provide general information about the museum, conduct admission/merchandise/museum tour sales.  You get to be the first point of contact for museum visitors!  Some days are quite busy in the gift shop.

Gallery Attendant:  Learn the general collections of one of our museum buildings.  Over time, develop more in depth knowledge of some key pieces, and/or learn about the collections in another of our buildings.  You’ll have fun talking to people, keeping an eye on the goings on and providing some in depth knowledge to our patrons.  (You may even get some reading done on slower days.)

Event Volunteer:  We have many events at the museum each year, and also make several appearances at community events.  We could use your help!  You might want to assist getting everything ready in the days before an event, help with setup or teardown, or help staff engage with patrons at our booth or table.  You’ll get to hang out with staff, help the community learn more about the Woodman Museum, and meet some great people!

Your commitment:  For an Attendant role, we ask that you volunteer at least two shifts per month during our museum’s open hours (at least once per month during Winter season).  Keep in mind this is an average, and we understand you may not have year round availability, and that you have other commitments – we’ll work with you on scheduling that meets our needs and works for you!  We have whole day, half day, and shorter shifts available. 

For an Event role, we ask that you help out at least 3-4 times per year.  These opportunities are very dependent on our event schedule, but your shift for the day of the event can be very flexible – even if you only have an hour or two, we’d love your help.

Each month we will focus on a specific targeted group-- such as gyms and fitness centers in January, hair & nail salons in July, and pediatrician offices in October. By sharing our information with the community we'll enable survivors of sexual & domestic violence, and stalking, to know how to reach out for help. This also means their loved ones (friends, family, neighbors) can also find us to get support. Lastly, it will enable businesses and other individuals in the community learn about HAVEN so that they can support our mission with financial donations, corporate sponsorships, or by giving time and talents as volunteers.

We ask for a 1 year commitment of ongoing Outreach volunteers

Complete 3 hour Outreach Volunteer training (offered 3 times a year/dates TBD) Once trained, to sign up for 1 activity per month. We will offer 2-3 opportunities per month for you and send out online signups through Signupgenius.com the month prior, giving you time to plan your schedule. Hours will vary depending on the Outreach activity, but may include weekends, evenings, and week days.

Join our team of trained HAVEN Advocates!  HAVEN, formerly known as A Safe Place and SASS, is one of the largest violence prevention and support services crisis agency in the state. HAVEN is dedicated to addressing public health through violence prevention and improving the well-being of children and families. Preventing abuse and providing support for those impacted by domestic and sexual violence can lead to healthier and more secure children and adults.  With an extensive service area, the agency relies on a team of dedicated staff and volunteers to who work in all capacities to support it's mission to end violence and change lives. As a volunteer advocate, you will serve as a confidential source of support and information for those affected by sexual and domestic violence through our 24-hour hotline. In addition, advocates accompany survivors to the hospital directly after an assault has occurred or to the police station to report a crime. If you wish to become a client services advocate, you are required to complete a 35-hour training that will prepare you to provide crisis counseling, support and advocacy. Through training, you will learn how to actively listen to clients’ needs, appropriately support them in a time of crisis and connect them with the resources that can best meet their needs. You will also be trained to help identify and examine the options that a survivor has at each of the different stages of healing. You are not required to have any previous training in crisis work, only a strong desire to help those in need of services and a positive attitude. People of all walks of life encouraged to apply!  Volunteers are “on-call” from their homes on nights and weekends, and are required to cover at least 3 hotline shifts per month for a minimum of one year. There are 3 advocacy trainings per year: February, June, and September. Upcoming Volunteer Advocate Training will be in Sept. 2024 The Advocate Training will be a combination of a self-paced 16-20 hours of coursework through a rich, engaging, interactive virtual training platform and one weekend of an in-person intensive practicum, which is mandatory. We ask that trainees complete the virtual portions of the training prior to the weekend intensive. Trainees will have several weeks to complete this prior to the in-person portion. Location of the in-person intensive weekend is to be determined.  The in-person portion will take place on Sept 7 & 8 (9 AM-5 PM both days). We have pre-constructed walls that need to be put together...followed by roof rafters and then some inside stuff as well. For those who are less tool-savvy but like to build things, we generally have a need for props to be built to help us make the most out of our scares. The screams are like music to our souls. It could be a mask or costume...you could be behind the scenes setting off lights and sound effects.  Planning more your thing? We have monthly meetings about the who/what/when/where and how...to make all this happen

Benefit:

Having a garden that is tidy creates a welcoming, relaxing, beautiful place to spend time, which translates to positive mental health.

Usually less than an hour round trip to the landfill.

Benefit:

Governance

Adopt, and regularly review, One Sky’s Mission and Vision statements, and review management’s performance in achieving them. Adopt, and regularly review, One Sky’s Statement of Ethics and Values, and monitor the organization’s performance in accordance with those principles. Adopt, and regularly review, Board written policies reflecting the Mission and Values of the organization, within which the Executive Director is authorized to manage the organization and to develop and implement operational plans to carry out the Mission. Regularly review Board written policies (at least every 4 years) and adopt new policies when legal requirements or regulations change Regularly assess the environment for Individuals with Developmental Disabilities and Acquired Brain Disorders, and develop, in partnership with the Executive Director, strategies to be responsive. Hire, monitor, appraise, advise, stimulate, support, reward, and, if deemed necessary or desirable, replace the Executive Director. Meet as a Board no fewer than ten times a year. Focus on challenges facing the organization and apply the knowledge and experience of individual Board members to the major challenges facing the organization. Establish Committee structure; adopt, and regularly review, Committee Charters. Annually complete the Executive Committee’s performance review of the Executive Director, and establish compensation based on recommendations of the Executive Committee. Board Members shall not benefit financially from their position on the Board. Ensure that the organizational strength can sustain the Mission and achieve long-range goals. Ensure that One Sky’s financial structure and funding plans will adequately support its current needs and long-range strategy. Ensure that the Board is carrying out its fiduciary responsibilities, such as reviews of periodic and annual financial statements, funding plans, budgets, and financial goals. Work with the Executive Director to secure adequate resources to implement One Sky’s strategic planning and budget decisions Review results achieved by management compared with One Sky’s Mission, Strategic Plan, and annual and long-range goals. Compare performance to that of other statewide nonprofit associations. Work with management to evaluate One Sky’s financial capacities and the resources needed to provide services Approve major actions such as capital expenditures on all projects over authorized limits and major changes in programs and services. Appoint independent auditors, review audit reports, and review management letters with the Executive Director. Ensure that adequate risk management policies are established and implemented. Oversee fundraising activities, establish fundraising targets and goals that flow from the strategic plan

Serve on Committees and undertake special assignments willingly and enthusiastically when asked.  Provide candid and constructive advice, comments, and criticism. Pro-actively participates at Board and Committee meetings consistent with conscience and conviction, while supporting the majority decision on issues decided by the Board. Be familiar with and follow conflict-of-interest policies and submit an annual Conflict of Interest Report. Participate in the approval of policies focusing on mission, finances, and income. The Marketing and Communications Internship provides an intern with the opportunity to share the Make-A-Wish mission and story with multiple audiences including volunteers, community partners, donors, and wish families.
