Volunteer: Friendly Visitors for Seniors

Our population is aging rapidly, with adults aged 60 and older now outnumbering children under 18 in the Granite State. Many older adults live alone, often without family or friends nearby to help, and find themselves socially isolated. Social isolation can be detrimental to physical health, including higher risk of heart disease, dementia, and stroke.

As our population ages, we are seeing a much higher prevalence of social isolation, which SNMOW aims to tackle with the Friendly Visitor program. Friendly visitors are assigned to clients based on a variety of factors, including personality traits and similar interests and are scheduled to visit their friends up to once per week.

This relationship is beneficial to both the client and the volunteer, giving them new connections, a greater sense of purpose, and better overall well-being.

Volunteer: Meals on Wheels, Drivers Needed! Nashua

Why should you volunteer at Meals on Wheels?

We all know what it feels like to be lonely - and to be hungry not just for a meal, but for the nourishment that comes from personal connection. That’s where you and Meals on Wheels come in. By becoming a volunteer, you’ll deliver a meal, provide a friendly visit, and offer a safety check to homebound and disabled adults who may not have contact with another person all day. You’ll join more than 250 local volunteers and more than two million others nationally - working collectively throughout the U.S. to make sure the older adults who took care of us aren’t forgotten, hungry or alone. It doesn’t take much from each of us to improve the lives of so many. Together, we can make a huge difference for the homebound and disabled adults in our community.

Just a few hours of your assistance , typically between 10:00 am and 12:30 pm can help your neighbors remain healthy and live independently at home.

Volunteer individually or as a part of a team on a rotating cycle. Training is provided. Please call Sean at 603-424-9967 or email volunteers@hcmow.org to find out about available volunteer opportunities in your community.

Just a few hours of your assistance on the weekday of your choice, typically between 10:00 am and 12:30 pm can help your neighbors remain healthy and live independently at home.

Volunteer individually or as a part of a team on a rotating cycle. Training is provided. Please call Sean at 603-424-9967 or email volunteers@hcmow.org to find out about available volunteer opportunities in your community!

Volunteer: Join New Hampshire's only statewide conservation organization dedicated to the protection and conservation of New Hampshire river resources

The New Hampshire Rivers Council is committed to the conservation and ecologically sound management of New Hampshire’s rivers, watersheds, and related natural resources.

Since its incorporation as a non-profit organization in 1993, the New Hampshire Rivers Council has worked to educate the public about the value of the state’s rivers, designate rivers in the state’s protection program, and advocate for strong public policies and wise management of New Hampshire river resources.

The Rivers Council grew out of the New Hampshire Rivers Campaign, a group of concerned citizens and conservation organizations that united in 1985 to create a voice for protection of New Hampshire rivers. The Campaign helped establish the state’s Rivers Management and Protection Program in 1989. The Campaign also helped shepherd river nominations into the new state protection program and helped establish river corridor protections under the state’s Comprehensive Shoreland Protection Act. In 1992, the participants in the campaign recognized the need for a permanent, ongoing voice for river protection in the state, and formed the New Hampshire Rivers Council.

Volunteer: MacDowell Medal Day

Each year on a summer Sunday afternoon, MacDowell, America's pre-eminent artist residency program, awards the Edward MacDowell Medal in the Arts to an artist who has made an outstanding contribution to culture at large through achievement in their field. We are currently inviting individuals with a strong interest in our mission and relevant experience in nonprofit governance, science, education or fundraising to explore the opportunity to serve on one of our Board Committees. This is not an open call for general board applications, but rather a chance to begin a conversation about how your background, interests and time availability might align with future opportunities. If you’re passionate about advancing weather science and contributing to the strategic direction of a mission-driven nonprofit, we welcome your inquiry.

"Learn United" Volunteer Tutors or Monitors

Description

Volunteer tutors and monitors are needed to work with children in grades K - 12 in math, literacy, or science.

This program offers free tutoring services to children in the community who need tutoring in a particular subject or general assistance with schoolwork. Volunteers for this program work with students who need one-on-one help on a particular topic for a short period of time - or for the entire school year. With education being one of United Way’s main areas of focus, Learn United Tutoring serves to fulfill the mission of supporting and promoting education.

Volunteer tutors may select the age range of students they’d like to work with, the subjects they feel comfortable with, and days and times they’d like to tutor. Volunteers should have some experience with teaching, tutoring, or helping educate others in another way, but do not need professional certification. Tutors generally work with one student at a time but may be assigned to small groups if multiple students need help in the same subject and if the tutor is open to that.Tutoring session monitors are a second adult who is present to ensure the safety of all involved. Monitors are able to read, work, do crafts, or other quiet activities during the tutoring session.

Volunteering will take place primarily during after school hours and may be virtual or in-person depending on the needs of the student. Volunteering does happen during school hours and on weekends in some instances. In-person tutoring locations include the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Nashua, the YMCA of Greater Nashua, Nashua PAL, Girls Inc, the Nashua Public Library, the Salvation Army of Nashua, and United Way of Greater Nashua.

Volunteers will be expected to pass a background check, annually, that does require your social security number. The first step in our background check process can be found HERE. Please print and fill out this form. The form should be notarized prior to dropping it off or sending it to United Way of Greater Nashua, 20 Broad Street, Nashua, NH 03064. If you cannot easily print the form and/or you would like to have it notarized at the United Way office instead, that is an option.

Those interested in finding out more should contact United Way at tutoring@unitedwaynashua.org or (603) 882-4011 and ask to speak with Sam if calling.

Volunteer: Event Volunteers!

Interested in Volunteering?

For more than one hundred years, volunteers have kept the Woodman Museum humming and vibrant.  During our 2025 season we are seeking dedicated individuals to expand our volunteer base.

Opportunities include:

·         Leadership positions and general volunteers for signature Woodman Museum events and community event tabling opportunities. (Event Volunteer)

·         Unpaid internships for mature high school/college students (Intern)

·         Individuals to tend to the Gift Shop (Gift Shop Attendant)

·         Individuals to tend to our galleries during open hours (Gallery Attendant)

·         Museum Educators who provide tours to visitors (limited availability; Museum Docent Volunteers)

Our greatest needs:  How you can help, and what’s in it for you:

Event Volunteer:  We have many events at the museum each year, and also make several appearances at community events.  We could use your help!  You might want to assist getting everything ready in the days before an event, help with setup or teardown, or help staff engage with patrons at our booth or table.  You’ll get to hang out with staff, help the community learn more about the Woodman Museum, and meet some great people!

Gift Shop Attendant:  You’ll welcome visitors, provide general information about the museum, conduct admission/merchandise/museum tour sales.  You get to be the first point of contact for museum visitors!  Some days are quite busy in the gift shop.

Gallery Attendant:  Learn the general collections of one of our museum buildings.  Over time, develop more in depth knowledge of some key pieces, and/or learn about the collections in another of our buildings.  You’ll have fun talking to people, keeping an eye on the goings on and providing some in depth knowledge to our patrons.  (You may even get some reading done on slower days.)

Your commitment:

For an Event role, we ask that you help out at least 3-4 times per year.  These opportunities are very dependent on our event schedule, but your shift for the day of the event can be very flexible – even if you only have an hour or two, we’d love your help.

For an Attendant role, we ask that you volunteer at least two shifts per month during our museum’s open hours (at least once per month during Winter season).  Keep in mind this is an average, and we understand you may not have year round availability, and that you have other commitments – we’ll work with you on scheduling that meets our needs and works for you!  We have whole day, half day, and shorter shifts available.

Your commitment:  For an Attendant role, we ask that you volunteer at least two shifts per month during our museum’s open hours (at least once per month during Winter season).  Keep in mind this is an average, and we understand you may not have year round availability, and that you have other commitments – we’ll work with you on scheduling that meets our needs and works for you!  We have whole day, half day, and shorter shifts available.

For an Event role, we ask that you help out at least 3-4 times per year.  These opportunities are very dependent on our event schedule, but your shift for the day of the event can be very flexible – even if you only have an hour or two, we’d love your help.

Contact us at events@woodmanmuseum.org or by phone at 603-742-7680.

Volunteer: Refugee Resettlement Volunteers

We’re looking for compassionate volunteers who believe everybody should have a chance to create their best life.

As a volunteer, you will help facilitate refugee client needs, such as transportation for appointments, helping to ready living accommodations, making food deliveries, and/or serving as an English tutor.

Volunteers also expand the services we can offer by assisting with non-essential, but beneficial, opportunities like assisting with transportation for children’s sports or other enrichment activities.

You provide us with your availability and interests, and we help you build your ideal volunteer experience. You set your parameters, and we work with you to fulfill them!

As a volunteer, it is up to you to determine what type of help you are willing to provide, although for some situations, we have greater needs for assistance. No matter what, you will find your life enriched by getting to know and forming a bond with the clients you meet.

You will gain a better understanding of the challenges faced by refugees entering the country legally and trying to establish themselves in their new country.  You will see resilience through struggles, and know you played a part in mitigating a hardship.

You will find gratitude for things you probably never considered.  And, you will fall asleep at night knowing you played an important role in somebody else’s life at a time when they desperately needed you.

Volunteer: Puppy Raisers

Puppy raisers are responsible for providing a loving and structured home for young puppies to prepare them for future service dog work. They teach basic obedience, expose the puppy to various environments, people, and other animals, and instill good manners both at home and in public. Raisers attend training classes, follow specific training guidelines, and maintain the puppy’s health through proper diet, exercise, and veterinary care. Puppies typically stay with their raisers until they are 12-18 months old, depending on their progress, maturity, and readiness for advanced training. We also offer co-raising opportunities with a family member or friend, giving raisers a built-in puppy sitter.

Service dogs in training are allowed in many public places, so travel isn’t necessarily an issue and can be a valuable experience, depending on the puppy's age. If a puppy isn’t ready for certain travel experiences, we can provide puppy-sitting when needed. Short-term raising is also available, provided another raiser can take over when the initial commitment ends.Puppy Raising: Shaping Future Service Dogs

Volunteer: Haunted House

We have room for almost anyone interested in haunted houses!

We have pre-constructed walls that need to be put together...followed by roof rafters and then some inside stuff as well. We can always use someone with fresh ideas of how to do this as well so check us out. For those who are less tool-savvy but like to build things, we generally have a need for props to be built to help us make the most out of our scares. The screams are like music to our souls. Want to be the reason people are screaming? We need people inside the haunt as well. It could be a mask or costume...you could be behind the scenes setting off lights and sound effects.  Planning more your thing? We have monthly meetings about the who/what/when/where and how...to make all this happen

We ask for age 14 or older UNLESS your parent is staying with you.

We average a minimum of 1 hour and up to 2 hours a month of communications when issues and discussions are needed.  We normally do not have a set date or time.   This can be adjusted as needed.

We are seeking individuals who are family involved and want to do what is best for our organization.

We are currently asking for a 2 year term commitment; additional years can be considered after that on a yearly basis.

Volunteer: Frank Lloyd Wright House Tour Guide at the Currier Museum of Art

Help us share art with our community! From leading public tours to guided art activities, volunteers are central to the Currier Museum of Art’s mission of connecting art with diverse audiences, from its neighborhood to international and digital visitors. Be part of facilitating exciting conversations and experiences around art!

Volunteering at the Currier offers unique opportunities to learn more about art; engage with our global audience; and join an active, welcoming organization. Volunteers can choose from a variety of roles, both internal and audience-focused, and enjoy an ongoing, engaging training program.

Volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of 50 hours over the year, with openings available throughout the year, on most days of the week. This is a great way to connect with art, join a lively learning community, and support positive community programs in Manchester.

Currently, the Currier Museum of Art is recruiting volunteers to give tours of the two mid-century houses in our collection designed by Frank Lloyd Wright – and located right in Manchester. As stewards of these spaces, volunteers help keep these key structures and stories accessible to our visitors through small group tours. The training course will take place from the end of March through early April 2024.

The next training class for volunteers who work in the Currier’s museum building will take place this fall, best-suited for those who are interested in our fine arts collection.

To learn more or submit an application, please visit our website at: https://currier.org/volunteer/ or or contact Carolin Sanchez, Tour and Volunteer Manager, at csanchez@currier.org or by phone at 603.518.4956.
