About the Workplace Safety Specialist/Trainers:

Are you organized, like people, and passionate about safety and equity?

Educators take notice! Safety Specialist volunteers will help OP Safety and Compliance Officer build and deliver training for the Ogunquit Playhouse safety plans and evacuation plans.

Some specialists will train our visiting design and production crews, as well as our actors and other volunteers in safety plans for various buildings on and off our campus. Trainings will happen throughout the season when new show companies arrive.

Other safety specialists may assist in writing, finalizing approved training to be delivered by trainers. Other safety specialists could update our Safety Training database to ensure all volunteer and paid staff have received and are up to date on their training.

Safety trainings will include Emergency Evacuation training, Active Attacker training, and more. 

Safety Specialists will work together to ensure records are current for staff who have or have not had various trainings, and will follow-up with scheduling.

New Hampshire Sierra Club is an outdoor advocacy organization that supports clean air, public lands and protecting wildlife but that doesn't mean we do everything outside. We have an office in Concord, NH. We are looking for office volunteers to help with mailings, recruiting for events, fundraising events, sending thank you notes and more.

Childcare Volunteers support mothers at Lydia’s House of Hope by providing safe, attentive, and engaging care for their children during scheduled programs. Volunteers help create a positive and welcoming environment where children can play, learn, and feel secure. All volunteers 16 years or older must complete a background check prior to volunteering.

Trip Chaperones support staff members during off-site trips by helping supervise residents and children, ensuring safety, and assisting with logistics. This role helps create a smooth, enjoyable, and well-organized outing for everyone involved.

Key Responsibilities

-Assist the staff member in supervising the group and ensuring no one wanders off

-Help keep track of residents, children, and belongings during outings

-Drive the organization’s 12-passenger van or another vehicle (please notify staff if you are not comfortable driving)

Position Overview Resident Transportation Volunteers provide safe, supportive transportation for residents of Lydia’s House of Hope to scheduled appointments and approved destinations. This is an on-call, as-needed volunteer position. When a transportation need arises, a Lydia’s House staff member will personally contact volunteers to ask about availability. Volunteers are never obligated to accept a ride request. As a volunteer, you always have the right to say no based on your availability.

Responsibilities

-Provide transportation for residents to and from approved appointments or destinations

-Drive directly to the designated location and back without making side stops   

-Maintain a respectful, supportive, and professional presence during transportation

-Follow all Lydia’s House of Hope volunteer policies and transportation guidelines

-Communicate promptly with staff regarding availability and any concerns

Volunteer Drivers are needed to help individuals who are blind and visually impaired.

Transportation is an essential part of living independently. Future in Sight is looking for volunteer drivers to help our blind and visually impaired clients by providing rides to medical appointments, the grocery store, and for essential errands. This is a very flexible opportunity. Volunteer drivers select rides based on their preferences and availabilities. A small amount of time makes a big impact.  Mileage reimbursement is available.

Lantern Light Camps is looking for a Board member to assist in our organization and professional growth.  As a young non-profit, we are experiencing the normal growing pains and challenges that most new Boards face.  We have a important mission and desire, but we need assistance and experience to help the organization and Board grow.  Are you ready for a challenge?

As the first friendly face that members and visitors see, the Volunteer Receptionist plays a vital role in creating a welcoming environment at the Senior Activity Center. This role supports day-to-day operations by providing information, answering phone calls, and assisting new and prospective members.

Details:

Schedule: Shifts available Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM. Ideally, volunteers commit to one or more full or half day shifts per week, or are able to commit to being an ongoing substitute.

Duties: Greet members, visitors, and guests warmly as they arrive; answer incoming phone calls and direct them to the appropriate staff; provide basic information about center activities, services, and membership; lead informal tours for prospective members and guests; help new members with registration and assist all members with sign-in at the kiosk; orient new members and make them feel welcome; assist with paperwork such as collating newsletters; keep the front desk area tidy and organized; assist members with signing up for new programs; collect payment for programs (handling money); notify staff of any concerns or special needs shared by visitors or members; enter and maintain new member data.

The Substitute Volunteer Receptionist provides front desk coverage at the Cashin Senior Center when the regular volunteer receptionist is unavailable due to vacations, illness, or other absences. This role supports the smooth operation of the center by greeting guests, answering phones, and assisting with basic administrative tasks.

Schedule: Shifts may be Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM.

Prisoner Visitation and Support (PVS) is the only organization authorized by the Federal Bureau of Prisons and the Department of Defense to visit any prisoner in the Federal and Military prison systems. The primary focus is on seeing those prisoners with an acute need for human contact -- those prisoners without regular visits, those serving long sentences who are far from home, those in solitary confinement and on death row, and those who are frequently transferred from prison to prison. PVS visitors let the prisoners set the agenda for what they discuss.

Though 143 years old, Webster House just installed its first donor database, Network For Good, four years ago. Over this time the database has been inconsistently managed making accessing data that is essential to Webster House's growth and mission very difficult.  We need help re-organizing the database which requires routine data management and data entry. Admittedly, these tasks are unglamorous but essential to our mission. If you like detailed work, correcting obvious typos and making things consistent and logical (for example - St./Str./ St/ or Street?) then you'll love this volunteer opportunity.

Assist children in their education by helping them complete their homework after school.

ACTS - Assistance Canine Training Services raises and trains service dogs for people with mobility disabilities and for facilities that use dogs for animal assisted therapy. ACTS is a volunteer driven organization and at the center of the program are the puppy raisers.

All weekly required puppy raiser trainings are held at Telling Tails Training Center, Center Conway, NH or in the greater Mount Washington Valley (North Conway).  All puppy raisers must attend these trainings.

Short Term Puppy Raising

2-6 month time commitment

Generally, paired with a puppy that is ~8-10 weeks old

Possibility to become full term puppy raiser

Long Term Puppy Raising

18-24 month time commitment, varies depending on age of dog when paired

Puppy raisers commit up to two years to the socialization and training of a puppy. They generally receive puppies at the age of eight weeks, although occasionally puppy raisers may receive older puppies. The commitment involves a willingness to learn, spend time in training classes, spend time socializing the puppy in public places, and a great deal of heart.

Puppies live in puppy raiser homes as a part of the family. They must learn how to behave both at home and out in public. Training and socialization are very important and raisers must be willing to work with puppies using the guidelines set forth by ACTS.

We consider puppy raising to be not only an individual endeavor, but also a group project. We practice in group classes and puppy raisers are encouraged to enjoy the company and assistance of other raisers by practicing in teams or in small groups.  Each ACTS volunteer is considered an important part of every graduating team whether they were the puppy raiser or not. Everyone is invited to attend graduation and celebrate the teams that complete their training.

Sometimes our puppies let us know that they are not suited for service dog or facility therapy dog work, in which case they are placed as either as Detection Dogs (explosive, narcotics, electronics or arson) or Dream Dogs (adoptable pet dogs) with appropriate families. Our ACTS family is proud of all of our dogs and we celebrate the placement of each of them.

Puppy raising can be one of the most fulfilling volunteer opportunities available. Seeing how the life of an individual can be changed by a dog is an amazing experience. In addition to the joy that is seen in the end-product, puppy raisers grow and learn in their dog training skills. They create new and often long-lasting friendships. They meet and work with some wonderful dogs. And finally, there is that feeling that can only come from giving of yourself and your time to others.

Puppy raisers must be at least 15 years of age.

No prior experience is required. We provide on the job training!

Puppy raisers are NOT responsible for expenses relating to dog food, flea/tick/heartworm prevention, and veterinary care.

The Friends Program connects adults age 55+ with opportunities to serve children across New Hampshire as classroom volunteers. Our volunteers support students in schools, childcare centers, and after-school programs by offering consistent social, emotional, and academic support. Volunteers commit at least 10 hours per week and become an important part of the educational team. 

Volunteers receive ongoing training and support, monthly workshops, and enjoy a renewed sense of purpose. They are highly valued members of school communities!

Participants who meet certain income guidelines may qualify for a modest, tax-exempt stipend that does not impact Social Security, housing, SNAP, or other benefits.

Nashua Family Network (NFN) is a parent-led group that meets monthly at Arlington Street Community Center). Parents are in one room, while children are supervised in another. Meetings are 5-7pm (dates vary). When our regular childcare volunteer cannot make it, we are unable to meet. We are seeking alternatives to be on-call. Volunteers must be fingerprinted (Arlington St., Community Center will help with the process).

Currently there is a high need for reliable volunteers to answer calls on the LGBT National crisis prevention hotlines. Are you a good listener? Are you caring and want to provide a safe space for those who may be extremely isolated and afraid in these current times?

If you are excited in being able to be trained and take on a regular weekly hotline shift we would love for you to apply!

All volunteer opportunities are remote for those in the United States and Canada only. The LGBT National Help Center provides several national crisis prevention hotlines to support and uplift the LGBTQ+ community. Hotline volunteers will take calls and online chats from:

Volunteers provide peer-support, community connections, and local resources to those who have questions or concerns regarding sexuality and/or gender identity, feelings of isolation, bullying and discrimination, coming out, relationships, safer sex, thoughts of suicide and self harm, and much more by offering a safe space to talk and know they will receive respectful and affirming care.

Calls can range from short conversations on finding local resources in their area to conversations on personal journeys of self discovery, fears and isolation. Volunteers do not give advice or tell calls what to do, but offer a space to be open to discuss feelings and emotions on a deeper level and help build the tools that callers never reach a point of crisis on their path forward.

In these rough times many calls can be difficult, self reflection and ability to separate yourself from the calls is extremely important. Having a support system for yourself (along side support from staff and other volunteers) is highly valued to combat possible burn out.

Volunteers selected will go through several months of training before taking calls on their own.

Hotline volunteer requirements include:

-identifying as part of the LGBTQ+ community

-Age 21 or older

-Ability to take calls/chats remotely through internet connectivity.

-Having reliable internet access

-Have a quiet and isolated space to take confidential calls while on shift.

-Able to commit to one three hour shift a week for at least twelve months after completing training.

Currently all remote volunteer positions require being located in the United States or Canada.

Operation Blessing receives donations of clothes, food and household items.  These donations are then distributed to individuals and families in their time of need, free of charge.  We need volunteers to receive, sort, fix and distribute the donations that we receive.

Volunteers help with sortin clothing donations.  Responsibilities include:  receiving and sorting donations, displaying clothing and maintaining clothing racks, assisting clients as needed.  Daily and/or weekly commitments are welcome!

Our Client Assistants are the forefront of our ministry, offering help, compassion and relationship to all of our clients.  Assistants greet each client that comes in, walks and assists each client through their appointments and builds an important one-on-one relationship with each one.

Areas of need include:

Mount Washington Observatory welcomes volunteers to assist with projects that support our membership programs (mailings, writing cards, organizing materials and other administrative type projects). We also need volunteers to support our local and regional outreach events. Assist our Gardener in maintaining various gardens.

Our lesson volunteers are either leaders or side walkers.  Leaders in our lessons are responsible for the horse during the lesson and helps participants steer the horse as needed.  Some leaders are just shadow leaders who walk with the participant and assist as needed.  Our side walkers walk beside the horse during our lessons and are responsible for the participant during the lesson.  Side walkers are either active or shadow.  Shadow side walkers walk beside the horse during lessons and assist the participant as needed.  This could be with following directions, prompting the rider, and making sure they are safe.  An active side walker assists participants in lessons stay safely in the saddle by using one of 3 holds.  

No experience is needed, we will provide the training.  The only requirement is that you must be at 16 years old.  All volunteers attend a training with our Instructor and Volunteer Coordinator before being able to volunteer in lessons.  Further training is provided as needed to make sure our volunteers are comfortable with their roles.

The Upper Valley Haven is looking for new volunteers in our food shelf. We serve around 1200 households per month and rely on volunteers provide this valuable resource. The Food Shelf is open Monday-Friday 9 am-3 pm and Sunday 12-3 pm. Shoppers register outside and volunteers fill orders for curbside service. Volunteers help with donations, sorting produce, stocking shelves and food break down. Shifts are available in the morning and afternoon. In the interest of keeping all of our residents safe, we are currently limiting volunteers to outdoor projects. 

In warm weather, we welcome individuals and groups interested in helping to maintain our flower and vegetable gardens, and  other outdoor maintenance tasks here at our founding location in Enfield, New Hampshire.  You can come for a day, a few hours, or set up a regular schedule.

We ask that all volunteers wear masks and adhere to social distancing protocol, use hand sanitizer, and fill out a brief health and travel questionnaire which includes a touch-free temperature check. While you are on site, we will designate an entrance to the main house for access to a restroom, as needed.

Visions for Creative Housing Solutions' founding location is on a beautiful, rural 80 acre property at Sunrise Farm in Enfield, New Hampshire, where our organization supports adults with developmental disabilities who live in shared or individual apartments and two shared houses.  Residents have busy schedules that include work, volunteering themselves, and a range of community activities so they are often off-site.

We welcome volunteers who enjoy working outdoors to help weed gardens, rake leaves, plant flowers, and assist with other outdoor tasks.  There is almost always something to do and we welcome your help whether you come for a day or establish a regular schedule. 

Volunteers scheduled for more than one-day special projects are asked to complete forms so we can run a background check, in support of our efforts to ensure a safe environment for all. 

Little Angels is looking for volunteer to help care for all of our animals on site. On a day to day basis there could be newborn puppies, service dogs in training up to two years old, kittens, and even bunnies! We need assistance with exercising and stimulating the animals, giving baths, taking for walks, and cleaning their living environments. All volunteer time is rewarded with as many puppy snuggles as you'd like! 

Do you enjoy photography? Do you consider yourself creative? The Concord Coalition to End Homelessness and Concord Homeless Resource Center is looking for a motivated self starter to create content for Concord TV, Youtube and Facebook. You can make a difference by raising awareness in our community. You will gain skills in video production and editing.

Science Center Gardeners meet at Kirkwood Gardens, a public garden located off Route 3, and may opt to volunteer on any Thursday morning between 9:00 and 11:30 a.m. from May 1 through November 1. No experience is necessary to perform light gardening tasks, such as planting, weeding, and pruning. Youth volunteers 12 to 15 years old and older are invited with a chaperone. UpReach is a large property with a great deal of grass and fields to be mowed, gardens in need of weeding, etc.  Landscaping equipment is on property and provided by UpReach.  Volunteers need to be aware that there is poison ivy on the property.  Safety glasses and work gloves are provided.  Safe footwear is required.

 We have puppies that need socialization and need help from you to do it! Come on in for an hour (or more) to hang out with some of our resident pups.

We would love your help ensuring our cats are getting the care they need. We are looking for help with cleaning the cats condos, making sure they are fed and watered, and making sure everything around the shelter is going well! As soon as we make sure every cat condo is cleaned up and every feline is fed - you are fee to spend as much time as you'd like socializing with the cats!

A socialized cat is able to adapt to new people, animals, activities, and environments with more ease and confidence and that is where we need YOUR help! Come on in and help us socialize our cats to set them up for future success!

Darbster Daytrip is a fun activity that falls under our Foster program. Volunteers sign up to help improve the lives of our shelter animals and increase their likelihood of adoption by giving them opportunities to interact within the community at parks, restaurants, and other locations. The program also allows Darbster Rescue to create awareness about our facility, volunteers to develop meaningful interactions with our dogs, and an opportunity for dogs to enjoy a few hours outside of the kennels.

We have plenty of dogs that are always looking for a little solo-time with our volunteers. Come grab one and take them for a walk on our property.

 We would love your help ensuring our cats are getting the care they need. Volunteer Educators are essential to the success of the Discovery Center! Through the efforts of our dedicated volunteers, the Discovery Center is able to provide quality programs and demonstrations that benefit our many visitors.

The Discovery Center is in need of Volunteer School Group Educators. If you have an interest in air, space or STEM and also like working with children, then this is the volunteer opportunity for you! You will be taught by our knowledgeable staff about our many exhibits and galleries, and then be able to educate and run demonstrations for the school groups that come to visit the Center from Wednesday-Friday.

The Discovery Center is also in need of Volunteer Exhibit Docents. On days when we are open to the public during the school year, (Friday, Saturday and Sunday), you can interact with and inform visitors from all over about our interesting exhibits and galleries. There are perks to being a volunteer! Volunteers who work more than 40 hours quarterly will be given an Individual Membership to the Discovery Center. Volunteers who work more than 60 hours quarterly will be given a 2-Person Membership to the Discovery Center. We are very flexible and accommodating with volunteer’s busy schedules.

Daily volunteer opportunities follow a 2-hour structure between 9am and 5pm. Volunteers have the option of working with the adoptable cats, dogs, or providing general shelter cleaning support. Morning volunteers (9am-11am) working alongside the staff to feed breakfast, clean kennels, and walking the adoptable dogs. Afternoon volunteers (11am-3pm) help provide enrichment and socialization to the adoptable animals or additional shelter cleaning and miscellaneous projects. Evening volunteers (3pm-5pm) work alongside staff to feed dinner, spot clean kennels, and walking the adoptable dogs.

Greeters are the first person visitors meet when coming to the Warner House.  Greeters welcome visitors, give a brief explanation of the museum, take admission and help to coordinate tours with the guide.  Key tasks include providing a welcoming environment for visitors, taking admission (cash and credit - using the credit card machine), keeping records of visitors admissions, restocking brochures and shop items as needed, etc. This is great for people who enjoy history and talking with people but may not be able to physically give tours.

The museum is open June through mid-October, Thursdays-Sundays from 11am to 4pm.  Shifts can be 2.5 hours or 5 hours.  This task can be done seated and in a climate controlled space.  Training is provided.

Volunteer museum guides are needed for the 2025 season at the Warner House.  Built in 1716-1718, the Warner House is a National Historic Site and shares the stories of the 6 generations of Macpheadrises, Warners, Sherburnes, and Penhallows who lived in the house until 1930.  The house became a museum in 1932 and has been open to the public seasonally since then.  Fully furnished with period pieces, many of which are original to the house, guides take visitors through the house on tours that last about 45 minutes. 

Training is provided and the ability to stand for long periods of time, walk, and climb stairs is required.  This is idea for people who enjoy talking with people and history.  The museum is open June through mid-October, Thursdays-Sundays, 11am to 4pm.

Seeking volunteer with retail/customer experience to assist in operations of our Thrift Store. We provide FREE clothing to many clients as well as are open to the public for sales, with all profits going to support our services. Please apply online or better still-come by and introduce yourself! We will take a tour and discuss how you might be able to assist us in sorting, stocking, and/or sales.

The Friends Program is looking for committed volunteers to provide a safe place for the youth in the greater Concord area to learn and grow. No education or training is required, just a passion for helping children and being a dependable adult that they can trust. Mentors would be matched with kids based on similar interests and backgrounds to ensure the health of the match and to make getting to know each other easier. Matches would meet at least once a week for a total of 2-4 hours a week with regular check ins from staff to see how things are going for both the mentee and mentor. We will be there every step of the way to support both mentor and mentee and make sure that the match is doing well. Perspective candidates would come in for an interview and need to pass a driving record search, criminal background check, and not have any past convictions relating to child abuse or violence. After one year of the match, mentors and mentees can sign a renewal agreement if they would like to continue meeting through the program.

In therapeutic riding the leader is responsible for walking with and guiding the horse during the session. The leader is always aware of the entire team and directions given by all. The leader is asked to arrive 10-15 minutes early to check for last minute changes, get out necessary tack and prepare the horse for the lesson.  Previous horse experience is required.

PMHS-CV is looking for volunteers to help with our various community engagement and humane education programs! Programs include our reading program (kids read to our shelter animals), birthday parties, movie nights w/ animals, educational presentations, and more. Most programs take place at our shelter.

We are actively searching for volunteers to join our wonderful crew! From our barn chore volunteers, we need help measuring grain, feeding hay, turning out horses, scooping stalls, and other necessary tasks in keeping our herd of therapy horses (and donkey!) cared for. This position would ask volunteers to commit about three hours each week to help us achieve our mission. Training is provided!

Lesson Assistant Volunteers are typically seen in the barn and arena helping with our lesson horses and students. Volunteers will work alongside students as they learn to brush and tack horse, or will prepare horses prior to lessons. Then, volunteers join students in the riding arena as needed to assist our BITS lesson instructors. We need reliable volunteers to ensure each of our kiddos' lessons are a success! Training is provided, but horse experience is always a plus!

If you are handy with tools and interested in helping maintain our grounds, we always need help keeping up with repairs around the farm! Painting fences, fixing gates, building arena elements, and many other projects are frequent at BITS. Come join our team!

BACKSTAGE POSITIONS

Set Building:

You don’t need to be an experienced carpenter to help with set building (although we welcome you if you are!). Our Lead Carpenters and experienced builders will teach you and guide you in tasks appropriate for your skill level.  It is also a great way to learn and practice a new skill and get to see your work in the final production. Some sets are realistic interiors that look just like a room in someone’s home and others are unit sets with many pieces that move in and out.  This is a fun and challenging way to be a part of a production. Set building takes place at a variety of times so you can probably find sessions that work with your schedule. Keep an eye out for an upcoming Power Tool Workshop where you can get concentrated instruction.

Set Painting:

You don’t need to be an artist/painter, or to be gifted (although there are lots of opportunities for specialized art work if you are an artist).  Much of the scene painting we do at The Players consists of base-coating, solid color painting, and easily painted specialty pieces that require only patience and the love of moving a paintbrush.  Again, our Lead Painters will be at every session to guide you in tasks and techniques.  Scene painting is great fun and even if you have never done it before, you’ll be able to learn techniques that will have you painting like Rembrandt.  Painting sessions are at varying times so you cand pick and choose those that work with your schedule.  There’s nothing like seeing your hard work under stage lights!

Set Dressing:

Do you love yard sales and antique shops?  Do you love decorating would you like to have access to a budget and a whole warehouse floor full of interesting objects?  Do you have an eye for where to hang pictures, where to put artificial plants, which curtains work best with the design of the room?  If this sounds like you, you will love set dressing.  Working with the designer you will bring the set to life by adding all the finishing touches.  You’ll also be working side by side with the Properties Designer, always a fun collaboration.  You’ll do a lot of your work later in the production calendar, once the set is finished, so it’s often a whirlwind of hunting, shopping, hanging, and excitement as you move things into the Audi during the last week or two (for musicals) and bring the set detail to life.

Props Manager and Props Assistant

Such a simple title for a very challenging and rewarding job.  The props manager makes a list of properties needed for the show using the script.  They then work with the director on additions and deletions. You will be finding, buying, or pulling from our extensive prop collection all the things that the actors handle during a play. A love of yard sales, thrift shops, crafts and collecting makes you a perfect candidate!  Sometimes you will work in collaboration with the set dresser as well.  Each play has different prop requirements—Our Town has about six props and Not A Word had more than 50. In addition to getting the props ready the Prop Manager attends rehearsals (later in the rehearsal period, usually) and all performances to work backstage with props assistants and the stage manager to be sure all items are in the correct spot and ready for actors.  Note: The Players are very aware of and careful for prop safety, following strict guidelines for prop firearms, knives, swords, etc.

Costume Designer, Costume Assistants, Wardrobe Manager

If you love working with people and clothing you might find your theatre home on the second floor of the Players’ Studio, where you will find one of the largest collections of costumes in the state.  What we don’t have in stock we build or borrow and every show needs lots of help with costumes.  If you have any training or experience with costume design, we need you now! If you are interested in learning we can pair you with our experienced designers on a few shows until you feel ready to design on your own.

If you like to sew or have always wanted to learn, we also need you now.  Costumes need to be altered, mended or modified. Bring your skills to the costume assistant position.

And maybe you love costumes but don’t want to design or sew!  We need you to work on wardrobe, which is the packing, transporting, organizing at the theatre, being a backstage dresser and helping actors with costume changes, collecting, laundering, and returning of all costumes used in a show.  Don’t worry if this sounds like a lot—you’ll have plenty of help.  Wardrobe work is a great way to be backstage during a show and to be a vital part of the action.  Most of your commitments as wardrobe manager will be during the last few weeks of production and immediately following the show.

Run Crew

Are you calm under pressure?  Do you love order and organization? Do you look good in black and a headset?  Our run crews perform set and prop changes under the direction of the Technical Director and Stage Manager.  You will often work with a stagehand script, a detailed list of all the changes and who does what and when. The run crew for 39 Steps last season even got a curtain call because they did so much in full view of the audience.  This is a great opportunity to be an integral part of a play if you don’t want to act.  You will need to be at rehearsals later in the rehearsal period and for all rehearsals once the show has moved to the Audi.

Load-In and Strike Crew

It takes a village to get our shows from the Studio to the City Auditorium.  Sometimes it means taking an entire set apart and loading it, along with props, costumes, lighting and sound equipment on a truck, moving it downtown, unloading it and reassembling it on the Audi stage.  It is a brief but intense experience with lots of camaraderie and a delicious lunch served by Players cooks and bakers.  Then, at the end of the show, it all has to be done in reverse…when the actors and run crews are tired and very much in need of your help.  The cast and crew are required to do this job but would welcome you to join them for either or both.

Marketing and Publicity

We have a committee for Marketing and Publicity that could really use your help with everything from graphic design to poster runs. For instance, we need a “Volunteer With the Players” brochure designed as soon as possible!  If you are an experienced graphic design person you will find lots of fun, quirky, and challenging projects waiting for you.  If you just want to help with logistics, if you like to write newsletter entries and copy, if you want to help communicate with print and TV media, help design our show programs, posters, and other publicity we need you.  This work can often be done entirely on your schedule and, again, if you want to learn we have lots of experienced professionals to help you.

Box Office

Help out with all ticket related tasks from managing season subscriptions to taking tickets (paper or electronic) at the door.  Our Box Office committee members will train you on the software and other procedures.  This is a great way to meet the public and will challenge and reward you. Some work required across the season and at performances.

Shop and Paint Shop Maintenance and Studio Maintenance

If you have already had your Studio tour you have seen how well organized and maintained the shop, paint shop, scenery docks, prop and costume storage, library, sound equipment storage, kitchen, bathrooms and rehearsal areas are.  If only this happened by magic!  But it takes many people who are good organizers and meticulous cleaners. (Remember, it’s always more fun to clean someone else’s house!). These spaces are used constantly by people who are so busy building, painting, sewing, and other show-related tasks that they don’t always have time to keep these spaces like they should be.  Once each year there is a Studio clean-up day, which involves many people, but we need help throughout the rest of the year.  You can make your own schedule and get plenty of advice and guidance from experienced Players. It’s not a glamorous job but you will be held in highest esteem and can feel proud of your work every time you come into our beautiful space.

Workshop Assistant/Administrator

The Players offer training workshops—single events—throughout the year and workshop leaders sometimes need help with registration, confirmation, or logistics for those workshops before and on the day of.  If you help out you get to attend the workshop for free!  This isn’t a huge time requirement but it can make a big difference for the instructor and it’s a great chance to get to know people.

Social Events Planning/Set-up/Clean-up

One of the best things about being involved with the Community Players is the frequent opportunities to engage socially.  Each show has a company party and there are often other opportunities to share a meal together at the Studio including the Annual Meeting.  We always need help planning pot luck dinners, shopping for supplies, setting up, and cleaning up, and, of course, enjoying the social time.

Lead and Assistant Producers

Even if you’re not a CEO or head of a big organization (although we welcome all levels of experience) we need your help producing our shows.  It is work that goes largely unrecognized by the outside world—we LOVE our producers within the Players family—but without which there would be no productions. Lead Producers go through one of our periodic Producer Training workshops, which are open to anyone.  This is a great way to learn about all the hard work behind the magic you see on stage.  Our producers do a variety of administrative tasks involving helping to staff the show, scheduling, communication, planning, coordinating and working closely with the director, Players’ president/board of directors and designers.  It is a great challenge and extremely rewarding.  Assistant producers are also encouraged to attend producer training as they help out with all aspects of producing under the guidance of the lead producer. Producers use our detailed Producers’ Manual, which contains detailed lists of all the necessary tasks.

Stage Manager and Assistant Stage Manager

You probably have/had a job or career or manage/managed a family and as such have the basic skill set required to be a Stage Manager.  You will just need to attend one of our Stage Manager training workshops or work first under the guidance of an experienced Stage Manager. The Stage Manager is in charge of everything that happens behind the curtain.  And that’s a lot.  You will work closely with the director to prepare the rehearsal space, run rehearsals, take blocking, coordinate light, sound, and set change cues with the designers, support actors, supervise load out and load in, manage strike and call the show, among many other duties.  It’s like being an air traffic controller only with people instead of planes.  And it is as much fun as it is challenging, especially if you enjoy big-picture management.  The Assistant Stage Manager works closely with the SM and it is a good place to gain experience if you want to Stage Manage.  The Players has a small stable of excellent Stage Managers but they get tired and would welcome some new members of this elite group.

Ushers

Come to a brief training, work with some wonderful people, greet and assist the public, and get to see a show for free.  We always need ushers!

House Managers

Just as the Stage Manager is responsible for everything that happens behind the curtain, you are responsible for everything that happens in front of the curtain. Among other things, you will open and close the theatre building, supervise ushers, handle emergencies, assist patrons with special needs, manage intermissions, assure cleanliness of the lobby and restrooms, and serve as an ambassador for the Players.  You will have access to preparation and training by our experienced House Managers.  Again, if you like to be in charge or if you’re a natural manager, this is a fun job.  Your commitment is limited to show nights after you have been trained.

Lighting, Set, and Sound Designers

In these key design positions, you will design and install lighting, scenery, and sound. These are specialized positions that require some basic training but if you have an interest, the experienced designers at the Players will mentor you and support you as you learn and try your skills. If you are an experienced designer or technician, we need you now!

Light and Sound Board Operators

These are highly technical positions that receive a small stipend.  You may need to be specially trained and certified on the Audi boards, or receive special training on Players’ equipment.  Anyone with past experience running lights and/or sound can shorten the training process and we are willing to train anyone with an interest.  Lights and sound are characters in any show and we need the highest quality work from our operators.  Want a good challenge?  This is it!

Barn volunteers assist with a wide variety of task, including and not limited to, stall/run in shed cleaning, adding bedding as needed, providing clean water to horses inside and outside, sweeping horse aisle, de-webbing stalls and barn aisle, as well as other tasks to maintain barn cleanliness.  Volunteers may assist with putting hay in fields and turn out/turn in of horses as needed. No horse experience is necessary.  In order for volunteers to assist with moving horses to and from paddocks, they must attend a Taking the Lead training.

Do you enjoy morning walks between May 1 and November 1? Volunteers assist staff as the trail is prepared for opening each day by cleaning glass exhibit windows. All windows are ground-level. Window washing cleaner or a vinegar/water solution is used. Volunteers walk the 3/4-mile animal exhibit trail and see animals just after their release into their exhibit spaces while performing their service. Chaperoned youth are invited to sign up. Volunteers may schedule intermittently according to their availability. School Group Greeters welcome school groups as they arrive on buses, Lake Education Assistants lead lake-testing activities with school groups aboard pontoon boats, Greeters welcome visitors and provide information about the Science Center, Animal Care volunteers assist with cage cleaning and animal food preparation, office volunteers assist with mailings, and more! Think of hearing history from someone who has lived it! Many of our elderly recipients have lived through and been exposed to many experiences in their lives. Sharing these memories or other enjoyable activities is often the highlight of their day or sometimes even their week. Volunteers can offer a couple of hours a week reading, helping write cards, or playing cards or board games. As an on-call Digital Navigator, you’ll meet clients in public locations (such as libraries or community centers) to answer common tech questions—like how to recover a password, transfer photos, or navigate apps.

Step Up Tutoring is seeking volunteers to provide virtual 1-on-1 tutoring to 2nd-6th grade students from underserved communities to help build fundamental math and literacy skills and to provide support and encouragement. All tutoring will take place virtually! All you need is a computer and internet access. No prior tutoring experience is needed.

Responsibilities:

Tutor 1-on-1 twice a week via an online video platform; each session is 45 minutes

Overview:
Help create a warm, welcoming environment by ensuring the coffee and snack area is clean, stocked, and ready for members to enjoy. Kitchen Volunteers support daily hospitality at the Center—offering a smile along with a fresh cup of coffee.

One or more 1.5-hour shifts per week is appreciated. Volunteers are welcome to choose a regular time that fits their schedule.

The Food Pantry Coordinator ensures the smooth, consistent operation of the Center’s food pantry program. This volunteer plays a lead role in coordinating pantry-related tasks—food pick-up and stocking, managing food orders and inventory, scheduling weekly pantry volunteers, and serving as the back-up operator in the absence of volunteers. The coordinator ensures accurate data collection and timely reporting to both internal staff and external partners, helping the pantry remain well-stocked, compliant, and responsive to the needs of the community.

Handle general office support functions including mail, phones, organizing, etc.

Ability to handle phone calls in a friendly manner; attention to details; good organizational skills; data entry and email skills; ability to work with a team and individually. Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel desired.

We have a fully stocked kitchen, and many hungry youth and volunteers. As one of the kitchen volunteers you will be responsible for meal planning, meal prep, and meal serving, as well as breaking down for the night. We also have youth who enjoy learning/helping in the kitchen throughout the week.

Bear-Paw relies on the volunteer efforts of people like you to get the job done! Volunteers staff our board and committees, support our special events, and help with other Bear-Paw activities. These are just some of the opportunities available to volunteers. We can tailor jobs to fit your skills and time-constraints. Training can be provided when necessary. Many people volunteer their time each year to Bear-Paw and we hope you can be one of them.
Our Membership Development, Outreach and Education, and Land Protection Committees almost always need volunteers. Here's a brief description of each committee:

Membership Development Committee (MDC) – The MD Committee oversees the fundraising and constituency building programs of Bear-Paw. "Constituency building" doesn't just mean asking for money - it means engaging with people in our community through media outreach, special events, and personal connections. The Membership Development Committee helps develop fundraising policies for the board, create the annual development plan, oversee fund raising strategies, train the board in fundraising practices, and evaluate fundraising campaigns. Meetings are held on the 3rd Monday of each month at 5:00 pm.

Outreach and Education Committee (OEC) – The OE Committee oversees the education and outreach programs of Bear-Paw. We put on programs and develop materials for kids and adults to help them connect to the natural world. The Outreach and Education Committee helps develop, implement, and evaluate all of the OE programs (presentations, workshops, and field trips; brochures, newsletters and other printed material, web site, etc.). Meetings are held on the 1st Monday of each month at 4:30 pm.

Land Protection and Stewardship Committee (LPC) – The LP Committee oversees the land protection activities of Bear-Paw. We visit conserved properties and potential new conservation project sites and engage with landowners and volunteers on conservation and stewardship topics. The Land Protection Committee also provides recommendations to the board for easements, gifts, and land purchases in the Bear-Paw member communities. The Committee also oversees the annual monitoring of all easements held by Bear-Paw. Meetings are held on the 3rd Monday of the month at 4:30 pm.
