Prescott Farm Environmental Education Center is dedicated to connecting people with nature, one adventure at a time. Chickens are a staple in farm life and continue to play a part in many small farms throughout New England. At Prescott Farm, our campers learn about the vital role chickens play in food production and learn hands-on about where their food comes from. Our chicken care team volunteers help maintain the the flock to ensure the chickens are healthy, happy, and ready to teach campers. If you have ever wanted to learn more about farm animals and gain some hands-on experience with these feathered friends, Prescott Farm is the place to do it!
Members of the chicken care team will care for Prescott Farm's flock by completing basic tasks including but not limited to:
- Checking the health of chickens - noting any observations
- Providing feed and water, feeding food scraps if available
- Collecting eggs - log eggs, wash eggs, store eggs in the fridge
- Cleaning coop and nest boxes
Please note that the chicken care team has available shifts on the weekend (Sat.-Sun.) while the chickens are on Prescott Farm property. Shifts are typically 15-30 minutes
*Please note all volunteers age 12-15 must be accompanied by an adult
