Description

Each year volunteers across New Hampshire provide free tax preparation to low-to-moderate income individuals and families. Volunteers help tax filers avoid costly tax preparation fees and claim helpful tax credits. Each year, these tax credits lift an average of about 16,000 New Hampshire residents, including more than 8,000 children, out of poverty.

There are many ways to volunteer with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program. Read the descriptions below to find out which position is best for you!

Intake Specialists welcome tax filers and distribute the necessary forms. They maintain the appointment logs, ensure that filers are helped in an appropriate order, and assign each filer to a Tax Preparer. They conduct an intake review to make sure all documents are present for a complete and accurate tax return and offer resources for other needs filers may have.

Tax Preparers work with tax filers to prepare their taxes using IRS-provided software. No previous tax or finance experience is necessary, just computer aptitude and a willingness to learn. All tax preparers become certified by the IRS. Free training is provided.

If you are interested in volunteering for the 2020 filing season, please sign up and you will be contacted regarding the next steps.
