MacDowell Medal Day

Get Connected Icon Approximately two-hour shifts between 10 AM and 4 PM.

Description

Each year on a summer Sunday afternoon, MacDowell, America's pre-eminent artist residency program, awards the Edward MacDowell Medal in the Arts to an artist who has made an outstanding contribution to culture at large through achievement in their field. We call the celebration "Medal Day," and it's an opportunity for visitors to learn about and honor the work of the Medalist and explore the life of MacDowell first-hand. Festivities are free and open to the public, and include an award ceremony, picnicking on our grounds in Peterborough New Hampshire, and visits to the studios of artists-in-residence across our 450-acre wooded property. Volunteers help with parking, ceremony-ushering, greeting guests at our onsite library, and assisting artists at their studios. In 2025, Medal Day will be on Sunday, June 29th and the Medalist is Chilean-born artist, photographer, architect, and filmmaker Alfredo Jaar.  More: https://www.macdowell.org/events/2025-medal-day
