Join us at the Squam Lakes Association for guest speaker, Charles Dona, as he talks about his cycling adventure across the United States with a fellow cyclist. Charles lives locally in Holderness, NH and works at Mega Print. Charles has completed two 50-mile ultra marathons, a marathon on snowshoes, placed second at a 24 hour solo mountain bike race, climbed the highest peak in each New England state and NY in the winter in record time, and climbed each of the 48 4,000 footers in NH twice, including once in the winter months.
This presentation on August 1st at the SLA will be about his journey that began by dipping the back wheel of his bike in the Pacific Ocean near Astoria, Oregon and ending 35 days later by touching the front wheel in the Atlantic Ocean in Rye, NH. Highlights will include amazing scenery and wildlife, abundant, kind and giving folks, some local "flavor" of the small towns along the way, and much, much more.
This 3,600+mile cycling adventure covered 9 states and Ontario with more than 98,000 feet of elevation gain. The presentation will include lots of photos, training for the big adventure, inspiring music, stories, equipment used, with a general emphasis of what's involved in taking on a long distance cycling challenge.
Charles spends a good deal of his free time fishing, canoeing, hiking, backpacking, mountain and road cycling, skiing, and snowshoeing. His most valued recreational accomplishments involve travel under his own power, including thru-hikes of the following trails: Appalachian (Georgia to Maine), Long (length of Vermont), Colorado (Denver to Durango), and The John Muir (Yosemite National Park to Mt. Whitney).
