ABLE NH

Who We Are

ABLE NH is a statewide, grassroots disability rights organization based in New Hampshire. We are made up of people with disabilities, family members, educators, professionals, and community advocates who believe disability rights are civil rights. Our work is rooted in the idea that people with disabilities should have the same opportunities to belong, participate, lead, and thrive in their communities as anyone else. We bring people together through advocacy, education, community organizing, leadership development, and public policy work focused on building a more inclusive New Hampshire. At the center of everything we do is the belief that lived experience matters and that people closest to the barriers should help shape the solutions.

What We Do

ABLE NH is a grassroots disability rights organization led by people with disabilities, family members, educators, and community advocates working to build a more inclusive New Hampshire. Rather than viewing disability as a problem that needs to be fixed within a person, ABLE NH approaches disability as a natural part of human diversity and focuses on the barriers created by systems, policies, attitudes, and environments. Through advocacy, education, leadership development, and community organizing, ABLE NH works to advance civil rights and belonging across education, housing, transportation, healthcare, employment, and civic engagement. The organization supports individuals and families in navigating systems while also pushing for larger systemic change so that people with disabilities can fully participate in their schools, workplaces, and communities. ABLE NH centers lived experience in its work and believes people with disabilities should not simply be included in decisions that affect their lives, but should help lead them.
